Kutchan is an agriculture and skiing town, so it has an interesting mix of Japanese and expat international residents. The summer activities are hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, rafting, golf and community festivals. Food and onsens are always a special feature of life in Kutchan.

  • Help

    Help

Kutchan has a punishing winter climate and a very small summer window to repair and prepare for the next winter season. It also has a very fast growing season to prepare, harvest and process a summer garden. The help will be supporting the preparation and completion of a broad range of home maintenance and gardening tasks. Winter is skiing and shovelling the best 16 metres of powder snow in the world however we are so busy with friends and family who visit we cannot accommodate Workawayers in winter.

The house is 2km from the train station with a bus stop at the door. There are also bicycles available. The closest major cities are Otaru 1.5 hours and Sapporo 2 hours by train. We are Warmshowers hosts and enjoy the company of travellers. Japanese houses are compact, so they need to be kept tidy and clutter free to be comfortable. We can offer 5-7 day stay as we also have visitors come to stay so need to be able to work around their dates as well.
