    Description

Here we are a non-government non-profit organization located in San Cristobal, Chiapas, helping indigenous children in the communities around Chiapas with basic education, making videos of our interviews in the communities into documentary and preserving the culture into storybooks.
we preserve the traditional culture, record the oral legends into storybooks and use the books we make to teach children in the communities how to read and write in Spanish, offering them basic educational resources (building the library for them, look for resources for them etc) and teach in the neighborhood around. Here in our office, we also have our story museum to share with people indigenous culture.

    What we expect from volunteers:
    1. English and Spanish are both required (otherwise, you won't be able to work...)
    2. respectful
    3. on time
    4. thankful (sometimes when we go to the communities, and indigenous family receiving us offers us alcohol (for them the local alcohol is medicine and something ritual) and chicken(for them killing a chicken for the guest is a big deal), so if you are vegetarian or if you don't drink......it's gonna be hard for us)
    5. helpful

what kind of volunteers we mainly looking for:
    1. who can paint well (hand-painting or graph designing)
    2. who can do web/IT thing
    3. video maker (really important for us)
    4. who can help to translate and find us publishers in their own countries
    5. who can help us look for different programs in other countries to apply for fund, grants and different chances (including translating our proposal into their own language)

    Working hours:
3pm-10pm, 3 times a week and plus every tuesday at 10 to 12, the volunteers need to go to give the class to children in the neighborhood and extra time when we go to the communities (1-2 a month, 3 days each time) and when we give classes around (1-3 times a month, 2-3 hours each time)

    what we offer:
a volunteer house with small garden, wifi, hot water, kitchen.
    dorm bed
    and drinks with us:)

    special bonus:
the volunteers need to help us in our traditional cooking workshops (when its on his/her shift) to translate.
so you get a chance to cook and eat something traditional

We offer one bed in the dormitory ( with the kitchen and hot water, 5-10 mins walking distance from the organization and both of them located in the center of San Cristobal)

As our volunteers, we will take you to different communities where you can have the real indigenous cultural experience, know about their life, ceremony, history, issues, situation, textile and etc, and get deep into their culture. Meanwhile, we can offer you some free cultural events in our museum, and give you each storybook we make.
