We're a family of four living in Cairns, along with our Australian Kelpie, Koda, who always seems to have more energy than the rest of us combined!

Our home is in a great spot, close to rainforest walks, creeks, bike paths and plenty of parks. It's only about a 10-minute drive into the city, so it's easy to enjoy both nature and everything Cairns has to offer.

Mum and Dad both grew up overseas, so we don't have any family nearby to lend a hand. We have two young boys who were both born in Cairns. They're full of personality, love being outdoors, ask a million questions, and rarely sit still for long. They enjoy exploring, building things, playing games and keeping us on our toes every day.

We'd love for our Workawayer to feel like part of the family. We'd be happy to introduce you to our local community, take you to some of our favourite beaches, waterfalls and markets, and enjoy the occasional BBQ or meal together.

We're happy to share our knowledge of Australian life, our local area, and what it's like raising a young family.

We're excited to learn about different cultures, traditions, languages and ways of life. We love hearing people's stories and believe cultural exchange is one of the best parts of hosting through Workaway.

The main reason we're looking for some help is that Mum is waiting for knee surgery. At the moment she can't put any weight on one leg, which makes life with two little boys pretty challenging!

Our boys are 3 and 5 years old. They're happy, healthy and absolutely love being outside. Most days they're riding their bikes, playing at the park, digging around in the garden and playing Play-doh. Awesome kids, but like all brothers things get a bit too rough and tumble and they need someone to step in.

Mum is at home every day and will always be with the boys. She'll organise the day, help to decide what everyone's doing and generally be the one in charge. The problem is that she simply can't chase after them, carry one if they're tired, or move quickly if one suddenly takes off in the opposite direction.

Dad usually works from the office Monday to Thursday (8:00 am to 4:00 pm), but at the moment he's been working from home so there's another pair of hands available. We'd really love to find someone who can help out so he can get back to the office knowing Mum has another capable adult around.

The sort of things we'd appreciate help with are pretty simple:

Playing with the boys at home or in the backyard.
Walking with Mum and the boys to the local park and helping keep an eye on everyone.
Watching them while they ride their bikes or play outside.
Stepping in when the boys have the usual sibling disagreements or one decides to run off in the opposite direction.
Just helping out with everyday family life wherever an extra pair of hands makes things easier.

We're not looking for someone to replace Mum or be a full-time nanny. She'll be there all day. What we really need is someone who's comfortable around young kids, has plenty of energy, and doesn't mind joining in so the boys can keep doing all the things they love while Mum is recovering.

In return, you'll have your own private bedroom, all your meals provided, and access to a car in your free time when it's not needed for family appointments. Your evenings will generally be your own to relax, head into Cairns, meet other travellers or explore the area.

More than anything, we'd love someone who'll feel comfortable becoming part of our family for a little while. We're hoping Mum will have had her surgery and be well on the road to recovery in around eight weeks, so we're really just looking for someone to help us get through this temporary stage.

You must love dogs because we have a ball focused Australian Kelpie. The boys are quite ball focused too, so basically if you're happy throwing balls around in the garden for much of the day, you'll be loved by all of them.
