    Description

Hi! We are new to Workaway, but have long experience with home exchange, so we are experienced hosts, and love to meet new people.
We are a couple, empty nesters with three adult children and one grandchild, who mostly stay with us during summer and Christmas, but not at other times. Our home is located on the outskirts of a small coastal hamlet in south-eastern Norway, between Oslo and the Swedish border. We live in a house on a large lot and offer accommodation in our log cabin right next door. The cabin has two bedrooms and is perfect for a couple or two friends. Our project and challenge is our big garden, as we have neither have the time nor the skills to develop and improve it the way it deserves, so we are looking for someone who loves gardening to help us.
At the time being, we are primarily looking for late August and/or early September, but we might update our listing with other times later.

What we love about our place: the beautiful scenery, the tranquility, the sea views and walking distance to beaches and coastal trails. The setting is rural and coastal and you will need a car.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are both working full time, so won't be around all the time, that's one of the reason why we prefer two workawayers staying here together, but we'll of course have some meals together, we'll go on at least one daytrip twith you (depending on the duration of your stay) and we'll introduce you to the local alotment gardens where you can also contribute if you like and also learn from the others there. We'll tell you about Norway, our history, culture and language, if you are interested, and we would like to learn about your country, culture and language as well.

  • Help

    Help

We are primarily looking for help with gardening, both actual gardening tasks and - if possible - some help in developing and improving our big garden. Some other tasks outside, like painting, might also occur, depending on the time and duration of your stay and on what you like to do.

It's also great if you love to cook so that we can take turns cooking for each other when it fits into our and your schedule.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own house during your stay, a log cabin right next to our house. It consists of two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with a single bed), a livingroom/kitchen and a bathroom. There is a patio outside. We have had guests staying there several times, both family, friends and international home exchangers, and they all loved it.
Important: There is currently no wifi in the cabin. You might access our wifi in the main house from our patio, but you should have mobile internet, or not depending on internet. If you want a digital detox, this is the place for you! :-)
As for meals, we will eat together when our and your schedule permit, but because we both work full time, it won't be every day, so we will discuss how to do the food and meal arrangments before or right at the beginning of your stay.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Please note that we live in the countryside, by the sea, in rural and coastal surroundings. You will need a car to get here and to get around. The nearest grocery shops are 10 minutes away by car, the town of Fredrikstad and two railway stations 20-25 minutes away. We are 1,25 minutes southeast of Oslo and one hour west of the Swedish border.

We are looking for two workawayers, preferably mid 20s or older, strictly non smoking, who love gardening, tranquility, coast and beautiful scenery. Because we will be away for work all day on most workdays we want two workawayers travelling together, so that you don't feel lonely when we are away. We prefer workawayers without pets, but feel free to contact us if you bring a small, well behaved dog, and we will consider if it works for us.
