    Description

We are an American couple who have lived in Spain for three years. We live in Asturias--a beautiful area in northern Spain. We are nestled between the mountains and the sea, surrounded by green wherever you look. We both work online in the afternoons/evenings. (Rebecca is a math tutor, Michael is a project manager for web app development). Mornings can find us meeting friends for coffee in town, running errands, going on a walk, etc. There is a walk along the river, for example. In the summer, we like to head over to our favorite beach (a 15 min drive) to sit under umbrellas and read. (In the summer there's a bus right from our town to the nearest beach.)

Rebecca enjoys all things related to the Camino de Santiago. She walks a route at least once per year and often volunteers along one of the routes. Michael plays trumpet in the town band. We both enjoy exploring the local area as time and schedules permit.

Our home has views of the town and the mountains beyond. It is quiet (except for the occasional sounds from donkeys and chickens, which our neighbors have), yet only a 5 minute walk into the town (5000 people) which has everything one would need--supermarket, pharmacy, shops, health center. The town is on the Camino del Norte route, so on weekends you could take off on the trail and hop a bus back.

Speaking of buses, you can get to both Oviedo and Gijón by bus in about 45 minutes. We are a 25 minute drive from Gijón. If you have a car, you can easily get to other beaches or to the mountains for hiking. Or you can just enjoy the views from our patio and living room:)

We love meeting new people. So we'd love to learn about you and your travels. You would be welcome to join us on our morning walks into town or along the river. We'll introduce you to our friends at morning coffee, most of whom speak both English and Spanish. We'll also bring you to the tourism office so you can get all the info you'd like about our area. We'll suggest things to do on your time off and, depending on our schedules, drive you to some nearby sites to see, if you'd like.

Rebecca can set you up with anything you need to know about the Camino de Santiago. She also enjoys cooking (mostly vegetarian) and would be delighted if you'd show her how to make some of your favorite dishes. Michael loves all things tech-related, as well as all things related to opera, classical, and jazz music.

We are looking for Spanish speakers to help us improve our knowledge of the language. Rebecca is at a B1-B2 level and Michael is at an A2 level. Ideally you'd work with each of us individually each day as we're at different levels. Conversation is our main focus.

In addition to that, we need help around our home and property. Cleaning the house (it's only the two of us with no kids, so it doesn't get that bad!), weeding garden beds, etc. Rebecca would love to learn more about vegetable and herb gardening, so if you know about that, great. If you can cook, we'd love to try new things and learn new recipes (we'd provide the ingredients and Rebecca would love to help!). Rebecca has dreams of setting up a compost bin system, so if you have any experience with that, that would be great.
