    Description

I live on a 15 acre hobby farm where I garden and keep a handful of sheep and chickens and my German Shepard Vazi. It is not my business or anything, I am an ASL interpreter by trade and would love to host anyone who loves to have fun and work. I am looking for help around my homestead with a variety of projects including but not limited to, help gardening, help in restoring our beautiful 80 year old barn as well as painting and other household projects. In my free time, I am very involved in the Northfield Community volunteering in a variety of ways to help fight climate change. I am the chair of the Earth Day Celebration where we strive to raise public awareness about climate change and to plug people into actions that make a difference. I was on the advisory board for the city of Northfield to create our climate action plan and I am the chair of Northfield Area Community Solar helping people subscribe to community solar gardens. I am also involved in MN 350 that strives to be allies to our Native American tribes that are fighting a tar sands pipeline line 3. Northfield Mn is a beautiful small midwestern town with several organic CSA farms, 2 beautiful colleges and the sweet Cannon River that flows through town.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There's nothing like the small midwestern town to get a sense of how beautiful and community oriented Minnesotans are. Because I am connected to the community, you would meet a variety of people who care about climate change and are working to make a difference. You would learn what it looks like to have a community response to climate change and what you could bring back home to fight the fight. I am a sign language Interpreter and could share some language and you would meet some Deaf individuals and be exposed to ASL. Also if you are looking at practicing the english language I would be more than willing to help. I could teach you how to process and preserve food through canning and freezing and take advantage of the many lakes that Minnesota has to offer. I am 40 minutes drive from the Twin Cities and there are many opportunities to learn more about our state and the people who live here. I also have a big Barn Dance every October so if you came at that time you would get a chance to engage in the prepping and enjoy the event.

I have an older farm house where you would have your own room with a bed, bedding, a closet and drawer space. My children are grown so mostly they are not around. I am open to my workaway's food needs and we could make agreements about when and what our meals would look like. I have 2 bathrooms-one with a shower and one with a bath. I also have a tree house that is sleepable as well as a wood fired sauna.

    What else ...

There are several lakes around. I have a small fishing boat with a small electric motor, that is on a lake a 1/2 mile away and you could learn to fish and drive the boat. There are bike trails in the city of Northfield that is 10 miles away as well as the Carleton Arboretum where there are 800 acres of hiking, running and cross country ski trails. There is a bus that goes from Northfield to the Twin Cities everyday so you could take advantage of what the cities has to offer for an adventure, just 40 minutes away.
