    Description

    Hello Everybody, Hola a todos.

My name is Sam, I'm 28, an Englishman and for reasons long and varied have bought a patch of land in beautiful rural Spain in the attempt to build and live in a eco-friendly, sustainable and self sufficient homestead..... and I need all the help I can get!

The land itself is about an hour west of Madrid, in the foothills of La sierra de Gredos, and within walking distance of the quaint little village of Frenedilla, Avila. Luckily enough there are panoramic views of the mountains; the land has Olive, Fig and Plum Trees; my veggie patch is growing by the season; and there's a few chickens running around the place for eggs; and i'm getting some piggies this spring.

Over the last couple of years we have built, with the help of loads and loads of volunteers, the best part of the house and are now concentrating on finishing off the inside of the house as well as building some more small domes. We´ve also turned the place into something of a school focusing on eco-construction, permacultue and natural plastering. Check out the website if you don´t have much time but want to come to learn about eco-construction.

We are using non-toxic, natural and recycled materials wherever possible in an attempt to show that anybody can build there own óff the grid'house on a minimal budget.

Facilties for volunteers are as such: a self composting toilet, an outdoor shower (with lovely views of the mountains) with solar heated water.(well its solar heated in summer), a large military style tent that doubles as the kitchen and living room, and a few smaller tents with matresses for sleeping.

Work here could include any of the following: building, plastering, gardening, singing, looking after animals (cats, pigs, chickens), cooking, cleaning, laughing, fruit gathering, jam making, tree planting, plant watering, music making, dancing, building, building and building.

If you think you might like to come and volunteer we look forward to hearing from you, but just to let everybody know that as of this year we´re really only going to consider volunteers that can be here for over 6 weeks.

To help and learn to build superadobe technique for 4, 5 hours a day.
It is an easy technique, working with soil, water and lime filling polypropylene bags, which are the walls, while we are giving you the desired circular dome.

It is a spectacular site, there are buses from Madrid depart from the bus station Principe Pio, and go up to Sotillo de la Adrada or San Martin de Valdeiglesias, we would pick you up in any of this places. Or if you bring your own car or van, you wont have a problem to reach the Land.
