    Description

I am originally from Gibraltar and I have been living in this wonderful area in the south of Spain for about 15 years. I like meeting new people and doing things around the house and in the garden taking on new projects and ideas. I studied art for four academic years in the UK and I teach it to kids in an international school three days a week, I also paint and draw and like to go surfing if there are waves.

They could learn different things about general maintenance of a house and garden while meeting different people and how some ideas can become a reality and how to try out things that they have in mind and use their knowledge and experience. It is also quite a relaxing place and a bit artistic. I am an artist so I like to share it with others and I am open to artistic projects.

(Recent update: Apart from the big house I have bought a townhouse and I would really like someone to help me with a bit of construction work to maybe change some tiles, knock down some walls etc.)
This villa and land belongs to my friend who lives abroad, I would like some help and support. There are different things to do here like work in the garden outside and the vegetable plot but I also want help with interior decoration, cleaning, sowing and building things like the chicken house or a gazebo. There is a lot of general maintenance work like painting, help with the pool and so on.
I would really like someone who enjoys doing a thorough cleaning and basically help make this whole house and garden into a nicer place for themselves and others also guests that come, mainly in the summer.

I like to think that I give people the freedom to change and create so as to enhance the place. I am flexible with organising time of working amongst us so that the we can all benefit and so that the person that is coming can also have time off to visit the beautiful towns and interesting places around Andalusia. There are many nice walks up the mountains beside the house. The villa is quite cold in winter.

The person that comes here must be flexible to change rooms if suddenly there is a big group of guests arriving or maybe even sleep in a gazebo, sitting room or tent but I am sure we can work something out. I would like the volunteer to enjoy cooking healthy foods, preferably for more than one person. I would prefer that the volunteer is quite self motivated and enjoys the work that is before them. The electric heaters are expensive so I would prefer that the person that comes here, if it is in winter, that they wear more clothing and use duvets rather than turn on the electrical heaters. There is a nice log fire in the sitting room but it does not do much for the rest of the house. I am also flexible to give jobs that suit the talents, gifts and interests of the worker and I hope we can work well together.
I also have some chickens that lay lovely eggs which you could enjoy. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Accommodation

There are eight different bedrooms, a gazebo, and sometimes tents. The two big bedrooms in the house have big bathrooms and balconies overlooking the mountains and the sea in the distance. The smaller bedrooms except one do not get the sun so they are generally cooler and not so extravagant but if the big rooms are empty I don't mind them being used by volunteers until they will be taken and then they could move to a smaller room, sitting room or gazebo, which all have beds.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The beautiful villa, with fascinating views, is at a 20 min walk from the centre of Mijas Pueblo, a quaint typical spanish town with cobbled streets and known for its stunning views and donkey rides. Mijas has thousands of Tourists visiting it every year from Japan, Europe and other countries.
From Mijas it is a 20 min bus ride to Fuengirola beach town where you will also find beautiful beaches, a busy night life and the larger supermarkets (the closest bus stop from Mijas to Fuengirola, from the house, is at a 15 minute walk). If you have a car the whole Costa del Sol is within easy reach but there are also buses at the doorstep to the house that will take you to the centre of Mijas Pueblo (if you do not want to walk along the beautiful scenery for 20 min), Torremolinos and Malaga (the city where you will find a lot of history and places of interest such as the Picasso museum, old castle and cathedrals). The bus will also connect you to the Costa Del Sol train network which goes along the coastal towns from Fuengirola through through to Malaga. From Fuengirola you can also get buses to beautiful towns such as Ronda, Marbella etc
There is a small supermarket within a 4 minute walk from the house and a bigger supermaket in the centre of Mijas town.
There is a private swimming pool in the summer months on top of the communal pool that is available from June until the beginning of September. The private swimming pool might be available as from May.
Wonderful nature walks and hikes very close by on the impressive mountains of Mijas. There are different activities in the area, apart from the usual tourist attractions, like hiking, climbing, downhill biking, scenic routes, water sports etc or you could join me for some surfing or doing some art.
