Description
Spend a summer working at country hotel off the beaten path in Öxarfjörður, North Iceland. The small team of staff has an international background, and even for me the region is a new frontier: we just bought the 17-bedroom establishment, with high hopes for this pristine and under-explored corner of Iceland. It needs love, and we can use some help.
February 2026 update: We are seeking substantial kitchen experience from May to October. Housekeeping roles are fully staffed. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The Workaway-er would work with me and two or more full-time staff members. All of us have done Workaway-ing, or the alike stints, around the world. Our guests tend to be well travelled, too, as the hotel is located off the beaten tourist path. The lack of tourist development does not, however, come from a lack of opportunities: Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon and the northern end of Vatnajökull National Park are just a ten-minute drive from the property.
By working with a small team we hope to offer a wide range of experience. -

Help
We are seeking an adventurous spirit to live on a remote hotel property in northern Iceland and work with a small team of staff over the summer season.
Cleaning rooms constitutes a big chunk of the workday, but we'd love to hire someone who is also keen to shape the establishment. Cooking and culinary, carpentry and painting, design and computers; all relative to the work that needs to be done.
EU / EFTA / UK residents only, as this is a paid position. Other nationals, unfortunately, have a very hard time getting a work permit. Wages are at, or above, the Icelandic minimum wage baseline. -

Accommodation
Private room with shared bathroom in a four-bedroom house; the staff house. The residential building is around 2 km away from the hotel and our home. There is a path for those that want to walk and we have a staff car and bicycles as well.
To avoid any misunderstanding, since Workaway-ing is often about home-stays, know that we live in another house. -
What else ...
The hotel is located alongside a route known as the Diamond Circle. The area is fantastic for hiking and we hope to provide a car for day excursions.
