Michelle and Chris have been slowly building their homestead over the years, and we need help! Our goal is to grow as much food as possible and treat all living beings with respect. We love to travel and work on projects together. We have chickens, a lovable and shy dog, and an old queen cat.
On the homestead, you may enjoy the meadow, wildlife, and relaxing at the river bend on our 5-acre property or explore the awesome attractions close by: New Paltz downtown, “gunks” rock climbing, Minnewaska State Park, our county pool, winery and more!

You'll be learning a lot of homesteading skills: growing your own food, fixing and building things, green building design strategies, keeping chickens, preserving your own food and tiny house living principles; we have a tiny house on our property. We'll be sharing our home and meals together which includes: language exchange and cooking from scratch. This area is nationally known for rock climbing and hiking. We live next to the largest nonprofit nature preserve in New York State.
Looking for 20 hours of help per week. We are looking for help maintaining a homestead-this includes building, gardening, main house cleaning, mowing, and animal care. Garden/yard work may include: trellis building, weeding, harvesting, canning, broad forking, mowing, bed creation. Building with Chris on the homestead and repairs: depending on your skill set/comfort level, this will include any type of building work (example: building a movable chicken coop). Animal Care: chickens will need feeding, egg collecting, coop cleaning, etc.

You'll be sleeping and staying in a newly renovated bedroom. The bedroom includes a queen bed with typical clothing storage. It has a lot of natural light and an A/C unit. It's adjacent to a large bathroom; most of the time, you'll have the bathroom to yourself. You'll have full access to our food, share meals when possible with us, and let us know what foods you like, so we can add them to our grocery list.
Our property is on a river: you may canoe and relax in wilderness. Downtown New Paltz is 6 minutes by car (15-20 minutes by bike). The town is a college town: lots of live music, great restaurants, shops, bookstores, etc. You'll be able to borrow one of our bikes. Michelle mainly works from home, so we can drive you into town once in awhile or to a nearby attraction. We're also only 1.5 hours from New York City by bus for a city getaway. You'll be welcomed into our lives--this means when we go to the pool, for a hike, walk the dog, go to yoga, go to a brewery, hang with friends, you're welcome to join. Michelle and I have been vegan and vegetarian in the past; now we eat local meat, so we can easily accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets.
