    Description

    We are Tori (American) and Gian Luca (Sardinian). We spend our time between both places, and when we are in Sardinia we have many projects that we would like help with. We ourselves met through Workaway and feel passionate about this kind of exchange and opportunity. ALZU is the umbrella title of our project, which includes many areas of smaller projects (listed below) which we focus on depending on the time of year.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Between us, our family and local villagers, we love to exchange traditions, recipes and stories. We also appreciate the knowledge and ideas that anyone can bring to our project from their own skills and experiences. We are happy to teach anyone willing to learn the skills and things we have learned.

    We have a piece of land and an old house in the historic center that we would like to restore. Below is a list of our sub-projects under ALZU that we refer back to.

    Binalzu- pruning, harvesting, experimenting with viticulture.
    Olialzu- exploring the world of olive growing, harvesting and producing olive oil.
    Piantalzu- create a garden laboratory, design ecosystems resilient to heat and drought, construct dry stone walls, rural homes, terraces, and rainwater collection systems.
    Pastalzu- celebrate Sardinian gastronomic tradition with events and workshops dedicated to fresh pasta, bread and pizza.
    Pumatalzu- dive in to the world of pomodori (tomatoes) with a workshop to prepare tomato sauce.

    What we ask of volunteers;
    Passion and curiosity- we are looking for people motivated to learn and experiment, willing to get involved and collaborate with others.
    Flexibility- you will be called upon to carry out various activities, adapting to the rhythms of nature and the needs of the project.
    Respect for the environment- we ask you to share our values and our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

    Multi-family house-one part is where we stay and the other part for volunteers with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, kitchen, living space and terrace.

    We will provide ingredients for 3 meals per day, 1 or 2 of which we can make and share together if preferred by the volunteers.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    Martis has a waterfall and a petrified forest, both walking distance. There is nice walking and biking, and for those who don’t have a car there is a bus that can take you to the nearest city and surrounding areas. We are in the middle of the countryside and there are only two markets and four bars in the village. One can find a lot of peace and tranquillity here.
