    Description

We live a small acreage on the outskirts of beautiful Mullumbimby-walking and cycling distance. We have a little community here sharing chickens and care of dog. We have vegie gardens , dams and about 3000 native and fruit trees to care for.
There are always projects on the go to help with the maintenance. We are open, community minded but also value privacy. Therefore the room for helpers is a large friendly space with own living area and a shared bathroom.
Mullumbimby is a beautiful place on the Brunswick River, close to cafes, trendy restaurants and has a creative vibe. There are numerous bushwalks, beaches and watersports activities in the area.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

we offer to teach skills in sustainability, weed management in Northern Rivers of NSW, garden projects and small maintenance jobs. We love to share meals, I play piano and guitar and like song-writing. I am now in my sixties and still working 3 days/week in medical field.
I have hosted for 25 years in the past - staus from 1 week to 6 months or more, and always enjoyed the exchange of language, culture, food.

  • Help

    Help

The workaways will be helping with tree pruning, fertilising, weeding, composting, chicken and dog care, shed and general garden maintenance projects . Some of them require more physical strength, other projects are more creative and light. It often depends on the weather. Some of the work is specialised and we have to do together, others can be done alone. We generally work 4 hours/day for 5 days /week .
I have a history of having hosted for>25 years, but stopped during covid and have only just restarted hosting again for the last 2 months, and had some wonderful experiences with helpers. Many of them have become friends.

    Space for parking camper vans

If you have your own mobile accommodation, there is space to park it here off street on the property, unless there has been very heavy rain which makes the grounds too soggy. My son and family come here to stay in their caravan, and electriucity can be joined to the main home

    Can possibly accept pets

We have free roaming chickens and a shy rescue dog, as well as plenty of waterbirds around the dams. We accept well trained dogs who are kind and protective to chickens wildlife- not chasing it. They need to be on a leash initially until we can confirm that they are a good fit.
