    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

When I’m off I love to spend time with my son - we enjoy hikes in nearby forests, spend a day at a beach or somewhere outdoors (or inside - my son is learning chess:)). His current activities are -Triathlon, piano, soccer, skiing, and loves riding his bike.
We live close to a skytrain station and bus stops in east Vancouver - transit will take you downtown in 20 minutes or out of the city into nature in 45 min (by car the forest is about 20 minutes, but transit is a bit longer).

We are a small family of mom and 11yr old boy, living in East Vancouver. My work is in film, on a contract basis, so i do not work every week; i typically am hired for a contract for 2-3 weeks (average) and the hours are long, so we usually need help with care before school, and in the evening for a couple hours; the hours do vary and are not predictable. i sometimes work weekends and there are always a few days within the project which are the 'shoot' days and are longer days. i may not be home in time for dinner when i’m working. it sounds complicated if you’re not used to a freelance schedule, but it can be simply explained if you have questions:). Sometimes there are longer breaks between my contracts which means a few hours helping me with house projects than caring for my son, and lots of free time.

Being our helper is best suited to someone who is outgoing, positive, independent, as well as looking forward to spending time with my son and me:). So, as i said, you would be working flexible hours (scheduled based on my work schedule) and do normal caregiving tasks - like spending the time with my son some evenings and weekends, sometimes taking him to school (by bus or cycling). other weekly plans are: going to soccer practice, preparing dinner when i'm working, pick up from triathlon club, creating fun music playlists together;).

Our caregivers haven’t had specific housework duties assigned to them; i mainly take care of the chores, with some help when I am busy and need it. If we are eating dinner together, it would be common for our caregiver to help tidy the kitchen and share taking out the compost after dinner, empty the dishwasher. when i am working, as i say, i am often no home for dinner, so part of the role can be preparing dinner ; the more you love to cook, the more you are welcome to the kitchen:). When i’m working, the role involves keeping the kitchen tidy, emptying the dishwasher. we try to have a list of daily to-dos to maintain a level of cleanliness that includes sweeping the kitchen and dining area, but mainly i am grateful for my son to be in great company and cared for. also, he is 11 yrs old and takes part in chores and loves to help cook:).

    Accommodation

We live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath suite upstairs level of a home. your room has a full size bed, closet, and dresser.
we try to live in a healthy way, so to expand beyond how we eat: things like artificial scents (candles, etc) aren't really a good fit for our home. we love natural scents, organic essential oils and candles. we aren’t vegetarians but use many plant based recipes, and really enjoy cooking and baking together - we’re also curious and love to try new things and would be happy if you’d introduce us to anything you love.
