We encourage visitors to partake in this vision by contributing to our permaculture activities in exchange for our permaculture rainforest experience. We welcome enthusiasm to live sustainable. This is a 1/4 acre setup with an adjacent food forest; in addition we collaborate with various AG projects. Our gardens need TLC and there is much to do - promise you wont get board. It would be important to communicate via email / wechat app with us as we have multiple spots on the Island to tend too. Good to have a communications device (laptop tablet smartphone) a camera, and skills to attach photos and forward them.

This is Camping (please bring your sleeping bag, air pillow, air mat) with a little bit of civilization added (a roof over your head). We have on sight solar panels which are ample for charging phones and laptops.
Wood Barn Cabin Loft as per photo.

ps. Prepare as you would for camping: flash light, natural mosquito repellent ...............

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Will be attending a yoga immersion at Kalani in January. Wondering, is it reasonable to plan on walking or biking from your place to Kalani? Are there paths through the forest one could take or is the road the way to go?

    Answer: Kalani
Kalani is an easy cycle and there might be a path through the forest, might be worth investigation - there is a power line feed that connects to Kalani and it is maintained, this could be hikeable.

    Question: Location
Where are you located exactly? I'd love to be able to hitch easily to Kehena, Green Lake, Pahoa town, and Uncle Robert's. People are frinedly in this neigborhood and like to give rides.

We are located at a short cycle from Kehena Beach or Kalani resort (less than 2 miles), and an easy hitch to Green Lake, Pahoa Town and Uncle Robert's (4 miles)

    Question: Farmers Maket

Farmers Market at Space is every Saturday (this has moved Kaimu), Makuha Market every Sunday, 2 miles past Pahoa towards Hilo, and Uncle Roberts down at Kalapana.

    Question: Bus from Kona
So my flight will get to Kona airport at around 5pm on Wednesday. I think I will not be able to catch a bus to Hilo until the next day.
So the Kona Hilo bus is not running today due to its a holiday. So I won't make it today.

Allow a one day experience for Kona and the Bus.
It is definitely better you fly into Hilo, we do not recommend the Kona bus trip at all on arrival, better to leave that for a later experience.

Are there pots and pans for cooking? Or a fridge? I got the camping style accommodations. Shower and toilet sound awesome
Kitchen: The kitchen features a propane burner. There are pots, pans and basic cooking facilities. If you feel you would like to ad items please stop by the Keaau Recycle center, you will be amazed what you can find for a dollar.
Food storage: There is a fridge for food storage but we suggest buying ice to keep things cool as the solar panels are only enough for charging electronics.
Water: There are 7 gallon water containers for kitchen and shower use. The park a few blocks away features rain water catchment a regular toilette, roofed pavilion and a volley ball court.

I was wondering if you could tell me a bit more about the space and what is needed of the people who rent the private rooms( helping out etc.)
Also just wondering, do you have running water, running toilet?
I read compost able toilet ( optional)
    Just wanted to double check.

    Answer: ( helping out etc.)
This is Camping with a little bit of civilization added. Tasks: treat this like your home and as if you are coming back again. One very simple guide line will make this an amazing community project: leave an improved environment, mahalo nui loa.
Ps. Please leave us a list of to do's that needs attention

    Answer: Compost Toilette
Our compost toilette is very basic but extremely effective - you do not have to deal with any lingering smells or sights; The receptor container is emptied after each use into a curing bin, which is layered with composted mulch. There is a regular park toilette a few blocks down the road (it includes a volleyball court and a roofed pavilion) The shower is a camping style sun warmed container. All very special to experience.
