Description
NOW LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WILLING TO HELP US IN THE PERIOD 5-15 OCTOBER 2026, AND DO HOUSE SITTING BETWEEN OCTOBER 9 AND OCTOBER 14!
Hi, we are Vincenzo and Souheila. Originally from Rome, we moved to the countryside of Sabina hills, just 50 km from the capital, immersed in a mixture of nature, history and farming traditions.
We live in a late 19th century stone house, surrounded by one hectare of land, with my two dogs, two cats, and one very friendly hen. We have a vegetable garden (something halfway between a traditional and a pemaculture approach), which provides most of the vegetables needed year round, and honey bees.
At times, we need guests who are willing to stay in the house and take care of the animals and garden, when we leave for some vacation a few days. In other periods, we need someone helping with gardenig and, more generally, to share with us the every day tasks of running the place.
In this period, We are especially looking for someone willing to be a house sitter and take care of the dogs and cats during October, when we will be leaving for a while. The ideal workawayer is a group of two persons travelling together, but we are willing to consider all candidates! -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
If you are interested in synergistic agriculture and permaculture in general, we have gathered some live experience in these last 10 years, which we will be happy to share with you. we also have several books on the subject that are available for our guests.
Finally, lots of opportunities will come from Sabina itself. The area is rich in historical heritage from Roman times and the Middle-Ages. The village lies at the foot of the Apennines, with plenty of hiking opportunities. Also, in 45 minutes you can reach Rome, Rieti, Narni, and Terni. -

Help
There are so many things to do in and around the house, that the list could fill a whole book! But I try to take it easy anyway!
The everyday routine requires to feed the hens and and release them from the night shelters to the open field; feed cats and dogs; water the plants and harvest what can be harvested in the garden. The workawayer will share these tasks with us when we are at home and do them on his/her own if we leave a few days.
Then, depending on the time of the year, we have plenty of different projects that need to be carried on, on which the workawayers can help us, hopefully in a learning/teaching mutual exchange:
- grass cutting and hay storage in the barn;
- wood chopping;
- fence tasks;
- help with beehives;
- preparation of a second larger vegetable garden
- clearing of bushy area
If you are particularly interested in one or several of these projects, let me know. -

Accommodation
Guests will have their private room with a shared bathroom in the house. It can be arranged both as a two bed or a double bed room. I work partly in Rome and partly at home during the week, so there will be occasions to share meals and others times in which volunteers will be alone during the day.

What else ...
The train station is 15 minutes by car from the house (I can drive you there). Otherwise, the closest bus stop is 10 minutes walking.
