    Description

We are an internationally renowned centre of yogic knowledge, based in Wales, UK. We offer residential retreats, online courses and yoga teacher training based on the authentic teachings of yoga, advaita and tantra.

We are looking for individuals that want to spend some time in community with others and have an interest in yoga, philosophy, meditation and spiritual practice. We have 3 large polytunnels and a fruit garden that feed our team with organic produce and are looking for helpers to harvest and preserve our summer yield, and prepare the ground for winter. In exchange, you will be fed 3 nourishing meals per day, be given accommodation shared with one other, have access to laundry facilities once a week, and opportunities to take part in chanting and meditation, satsangs (Q&A), kirtans and more. There may be occasional hatha yoga classes but these are not guaranteed during your stay; however, there is space for personal practice should you want it. You may be asked to get involved in cooking for the team (outside of retreats) if this is something you are interested in learning or already have skills in. You will also be expected to keep shared spaces clean and tidy.

Unfortunately we cannot accept pets, and we do not get involved in/provide advice for visa applications - you will need to ensure you are legally allowed to be in the UK and undertake volunteering. We regret that we cannot reply to every message, only to those that fulfil the criteria we are looking for. We prefer those that can stay at least 2 weeks, up to 1 month initially.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

If you have the willingness to embrace your time here as practice, karma yoga can teach you how to be present in daily life, performing everyday activities to the best of your ability but without attachment to the end result. In it you will be required to liaise with others, learning to observe your habitual reactions to people/situations and how you can work with these. Regular chanting and meditation practice helps support you in this; the chanting giving you a space to allow emotions to move through you, and the meditation a place to observe your thoughts, body sensations and more. Its also an opportunity to connect with others on a different level, beyond talking/acting.

Other practices you will have the opportunity to experience include regular kirtan (celebratory chanting), havan (fire ceremony) and satsang (question and answer/spiritual discussion) sessions. We also have an extensive library of books on yoga, spirituality, pyschology, trauma and more, that you would be welcome to borrow from whilst you are here.

Please note that hatha yoga classes for workaway or team members are only occasionally available, but there is always space for personal practice.

We are in a remote location and access to public transport is limited. The nearest bus stop is 4 miles away. You'll be expected to arrange your own taxi or walk from the train station/bus stop on initial arrival, but you may be able to arrange lifts once you are here if needed. There are many walks from our site and previous volunteers have enjoyed days out with members of the ashram team to various places, including local towns and villages, waterfalls, lakes, mountains etc.
