    Description

Hello there! I have a small acerage I am reestablishing. I used to operate a small organic farm of vegetables, grass fed beef, pasture pork and poultry. I am looking to rework the land, fix my farmhouse up and looking for energetic, reliable people who will share in the work and joys of growing food in a sustainable way. I am located close to a full service community and 25 minutes away from the ocean. Summer time fun includes bonfires on the river, kayaking and canoeing and all things magical. Autumn memories are made in harvesting and leaves turning colour, apple picking and baking. Winter brings snow and skiing and snowshoeing. Spring bursts forth with the running of maple sap and a new season of blossoms and greenery.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As a hard-core Nova Scotian there is much to learn about our culture (fishing, agriculture, First Nations, etc.) We are fortunate to be on a small piece of land, a peninsula, close to other provinces and UNESCO world heritage sites. There are many festivals that we attend. There is much to be learned and shared regarding sustainable agriculture. I would hope to learn from you as well.

  • Help

    Help

The daily chores will be helping to work the land, planting, harvesting, fencing, small shed building, livestock care, attending agricultural events, preserves and baking, and working on the house which will include roofing, carpentry, masonry, painting, etc. All fun stuff! And sharing in cooking. No housekeeping, etc except for your own messes. You would not be visiting as house keepers. The work day on a small farm is not always straight 5 hours a day. It may be 3 hours in the morning then time off and 6 hours later afternoon. It truly depends upon what the needs of the farm dictate during the season.

    What else ...

I like to work hard and I try to balance work/play. More hands make light work. I enjoy traveling to festivals and local beaches and activities. I also really enjoy quiet evenings at home and you would be welcome to articipate in any activities that are going on. We can look for ideas online and in tourism books as well. There are lots of tings to do in Nova Scotia. It is a wonderful place.
