Our famous hostel is situated right in the middle of the CBD in the entertainment precinct of Cape Town. We have been described as 'the soul of the Street' - and we hope that's a good thing!!?? Our hostel is a lovely old building at the top end of the street with a sunny and leafy courtyard, fantastic balconies with views onto signal hill and the busy streets. We are an 'old-school' hostel and differentiate ourselves from the new generation of 'poshtels'. We are all about communalism and laid back fun and adventure. We share meals and outings together, we party together (often!!!) and we treat guests and staff alike as party of our weird and wonderful family. It is a large hostel sleeping up to 80 guests and there is never a dull moment or a day without adventure.

You will meet people from every corner of this world and will go on adventures with them in this incredible multi-cultural city. Cape Town is one of the most incredible, diverse, beautiful cities in the world and our hostel will provide you with the perfect base from which to explore it and many many many friends to explore it with.
We are looking for Animation Volunteers, Photographers and Social Media Enthusiasts and Receptionists (at least 2 months stay for the latter).
Animation Volunteers: fun loving, energetic individuals to join us as animation volunteers. In this role you will support the managers and reception staff by spending time with our guests and making sure they get the most out of their experience in the hostel. You will arrange activities, tours and outings in and around town (for example sunset picnic trips to Signal Hill and various beaches), you will help with guest animation and games in the evenings AND you will be deeply involved in communal eating and cooking; we cook a communal meal at least once a week and we have a Braai (BBQ) every Friday.
Photos and Social Media: Take photos of our events and activities, help build our media resources, manage our social media pages!!
Receptionist & Bar: you will be mainly working... on Sundays! Yes you heard right, SO much time to travel and explore! As this position requires a bit of training and you'll probably need some time to get used to our system and bar operations, we require at least a two months stay. You will be handling guest operations, check-ins, phone calls, tour bookings etc. and our bar in the same time so the ability of multitasking is an advantage :-) You'll be working hand in hand with our managers and apart from your Sunday shift might be asked to jump in on other days every once in a while or help out with animation, cooking etc. during the week.
In general volunteering with us is super flexible and you can help each other out as you please- since we're family :-) We don't really have fixed schedules and do appreciate independent work wherever you see help is needed or have ideas to bring in, e.g. organizing theme nights, water our beautiful urban jungle in the courtyard, help with stocks and maintenance etc.
A dorm bed with access to shared bathroom, communal kitchen, TV room, balconies etc
