  • Description

We are 30-year-old Eco-Village and Natural Reserve near Rio de Janeiro Brazil. We are surrounded by the beautiful Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest. We aim to become a fully self-sustainable community that shares and teaches about Permaculture and a new way of living.

Although we declared more than 90% of our territory a natural reserve, the remaining has an awesome infrastructure, an entire hostel with solar-heated showers, a Biodigestor to produce natural Bio-gas from our waste, and Agroforestry Gardens where we produce between 70% to 80% of the delicious vegetarian/vegan food we consume. We also have a great central social space for members of the community and shared rooms for volunteers, all right next to the river with a 20mt tall waterfall just a small walk away.

We want to share all that we are, and also we have opened our doors in order to form a stable community of members and volunteers. We have done much, but there is still much more to do, we want to become fully self-sustainable and move the permaculture and Eco-village movement forward, and that is why we need your help, let's work together, let's form a community, let's grow towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly future together :)

  • Help

The entire community here and the volunteers must be willing to help (or learn to help) with all the different activities that an Eco-project such as this one demands, from:

    Organic Gardening
    Maintenance of the spaces
    Planting seedlings
    Harvesting food
    Living in community
    Bath in the waterfall
Dreaming about the future of the project with us
    Having lots of fun
    Opening up your heart :)
    Love and contemplate Nature

At the Eco-village, we all work together, and we want people to get the whole experience.

We expect people willing to work hard and have a positive attitude, nature lovers who wish to share with a like-minded community.
We expect volunteers to help around 5 hours a day.
Most people come here to learn about Permaculture, Agroforestry and living sustainably. If you know or want to learn how to grow your own food, how to live next to nature without destroying it then you got what it takes :D

  • Accommodation

Volunteers at our Eco-village get to be part of the community in the most literal way. We got an awesome Central Social Space with two kitchens, a huge open dining room and upstairs there is a meeting space full of mattresses and pillows, with a video projector for cinema nights, it is also perfect for yoga or meditation sessions.
Just a few steps around it you can find the house of the members, and two big shared rooms for around 5 volunteers max each, both with external bathrooms. One is right next to the social space, on a second floor, the other is a small house made with recycled bottles going a few steps down towards the river.
Here we all cook and eat together, we all hear the sound of the river as we sleep, we all feel the humid jungle breeze, we all share the same space. All bathrooms here have hot showers, the entire built space has wifi, and right in front of the main communal space, just crossing the road, some 10 meters away, is our eco-hostel which has a natural pool that the volunteers can enjoy as well.
Our tap water is drinkable since it comes straight from the crystalline river next to us.
Most of our food is organic and grown right here, around 70% to 90% sometimes, Vegetarian but mostly Vegan, healthy fresh and varied. We all make breakfast, lunch and dinner together, and feel free to get a couple of snacks, some coffee or some fruits throughout the day :)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our Eco-village is located near Rio de Janeiro, about one hour and a half from the city, in a small town named Mage. There are several buses to Andorinhas and Santo Aleixo that can leave you right in front of our road, from there is just a calm and beautiful 30 min walk through the jungle until you get here. From here it is pretty easy to get back to Rio to enjoy all one of the most famous touristic cities of the world has to offer.
We know for a fact, after living here for 30 years, that this entire zone is extremely safe, to the point we don´t even need to lock our doors at night!
Just going up the road for some extra 10 mins you get to the Monjolo waterfall, a beautiful 20-meter high waterfall with a big natural pool, perfect to relax.
Right behind of our territory you find the Cerra dos Orgãos Natural Reserve, and a few hours further the National Park 3 Picos, this entire region is full of Nature and incredible hikes.
