Staying with Connie and Pearl was a great first Workaway experience. Immediately following my arrival, Connie took me on a walk throughout the neighborhood, introduced me to fellow community members, and took me on a bike ride to a local event and showed me around town. We quickly developed good rapport and I felt comfortable in Connies home. In… read more the summer, we often ate breakfast together in the garden, and continued to share meals together throughout my stay. The co-housing community that Connie lives in is one of the best environments I have ever had the privilege of being a part of! I immediately felt welcomed and at home, and have remained in touch with many of the members of the Co-Ho since my departure.
My half of our work trade included various tasks that never felt too repetitive, which I loved. Some of the projects I worked on included, but were not limited to: hanging wall art, moving furniture, cooking shared meals, repairing furniture, seasonal outdoor prep, dog walking/ dog sitting, running errands, sewing, and garden work.
However, I found that our schedules and work expectations began conflicting later in my stay. Although the agreement was 4 hours of work a day, there wasn't always a clear expectation or outline of what work needed to be done. Connie expressed a desire for me to suggest project ideas and ways to keep myself occupied, but aside from general cleaning and pet care, I didn't feel comfortable or willing to take on that role, preferring instead to be given a list of tasks that I could complete. This misalignment in expectations caused some confusion regarding when to be available and whether or not we were both feeling fulfilled in the end.
I think most of this boils down to a personality and lifestyle incompatibility, as I think someone who is more willing to jump in with home improvement ideas and projects is more likely to succeed here!
Lastly, given the differences in Connie and I's appetites, I found that the food situation was less than ideal. Pantry staples like oil, rice, milk, and baking goods were always available, but I did end up shopping for nearly all of my groceries. Additionally, I noticed that a lot of the groceries I did buy, ended up being eaten by the both of us, when I intended for them to be for myself alone. The food situation wasn't super clear in Connies profile, and I admit that this is something I could have communicated more clearly at the time, but a discussion on expectations regarding shared food would definitely be beneficial for future guests.
All in all, this was a wonderful experience. I learned a lot about cohabitation, communication, and conflict resolution. I am still connected with the Co-Ho to this day, and have enjoyed visiting Connie in the months following my departure and filling each other in on the newness in each of our lives :)
Thank you for your hospitality, Connie!
I hosted Alexandra for 90+ days in 2025. I found her energetic, social able, and very artistic in the kitchen and with a sewing machine.
She helped in so many different ways including fence repair, hanging artwork and indoor plants.
So appreciated having a willing extra set of hands prepping food for a weekend campout including loading and… read more unloading my vehicle a daunting task for me on my own. In addition to that she dog sat while I was away on two different occasions. My four legged loves her and willingly jumps into her arms. I enjoyed her company and would love another chance at an energy exchange with her. My neighbors are happy with Alexandra as well and have benefited from her availability for childcare.
Everyone happy all around.

Connie was a great and genuine host. I spent 2 happy months in her beautiful yoga shala. Connie is committed to the yoga and its lifestyle. It was also a wonderful way for my yoga teaching to hold me for a while, as it supported me during this time. I was very happy to share my yoga knowledge with Connie, and equally I was very happy to receive her knowledge and teachings. It was very sad to leave, and I'm happy to say that Connie and I remain friends, and it's always lovely to see her. This was an awesome work away. :)

It was a pleasure to have Andrea this fall. She goes above and beyond in all tasks inside and out. My neighbor commented about my garden never looking so good. Andrea simply read my write up on work away and honored my… read more needs and more. The exchange between the two of us was really in keeping with the ideals of the work away program.

I had a great time with Connie. She is a generous host and I really felt like home in her inspiring little yoga shala. The yoga is gentle and Connie is a great teacher. The work is fun to do and always realistic and useful. The part that was a little hard for me sometimes was the distance from social/night life and commodities like internet,… read more restaurants, coffee shop, stores, theater, grocery, etc... But in the other hand, it's an opportunity to unplug, turn in and discover yourself a little more. Thanks for everything Connie (and Cloe!).
