    Description

Imagine waking up in a 200-year-old heated Swedish forest cottage, snow all around, accompanied with our cat and hours to yourself to create, write, or simply be. Welcome to Drakberget (the Dragon Mountain), a sanctuary for slow living, mindfulness, and connection with nature
    .

The cottage sits in Acksjön, Värmland, surrounded by lakes, meadows, and forest trails. Only 10 minutes away is Ängsbacka Kursgård, Northern Europe’s largest center for personal and spiritual growth. It hosts year-round workshops, weekly saunas, workouts, yoga, dance, and a cozy café, offering a vibrant international community of open-hearted people and plenty of events you’re welcome to join.

You’ll share the space with Humphrey, our independent and self-appointed royal cat. He enjoys exploring and supervising, cuddles only during day time and will occasionally be joining you in playful moments like tag around the house.

We live simply, close to nature, and value sobriety and peaceful living. We will be traveling during most of your stay, giving you almost complete freedom to enjoy the house, the forest, and your own rhythm. (We might come home and re-pack our bags for a day or two) This stay is perfect for slowing down, reflecting, creating, or simply enjoying life in a cozy, inspiring home for a winter or a period of time.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This stay is about immersing yourself in quiet Scandinavian countryside life, days shaped by light, weather, and your own rhythm. You’ll experience what it’s like to live in harmony with nature, where small things matter: the smell of wood smoke, sunrise over frozen trees, or the satisfaction of creating warmth with your own hands.

Being so close to Ängsbacka, you can take part in workshops, yoga, saunas, and community events if you wish, giving you a taste of an international, open-hearted local culture.

Here, the cultural exchange happens through presence rather than structured activity, learning to listen to stillness, care for a home and a living being, and discover the beauty in simplicity. It’s a space to reconnect with yourself in a mindful, sober, and peaceful environment.

The kind of help we’d love 🌱

Your contribution is light and flexible, leaving plenty of time for yourself. Most of the work revolves around keeping the cottage alive and cozy during the winter — around 5 hours per week, depending on the season and your rhythm.

    Your tasks will include:

    - Caring for Humphrey — feeding, letting him in and out, and keeping him company.
    - Heating the home — lighting the wood stoves and tending the fire to keep the house warm; a heat pump is also available if you prefer.
    - Indoor plant care — watering plants roughly once every two weeks.
    - Cleaning after yourself — mainly at the end of your stay, leaving the home fresh and welcoming for the next guest.

    Seasonal tasks may also include:
    - Might be things like scraping some old paint on the porch.
    - Planting or tending seedlings, preparing for the summer months
    - Other simple maintenance tasks as needed.

This is not a busy or demanding project — it’s a quiet caretaking role, ideal if you want time for writing, art, or personal reflection while gently looking after a cozy home, an independent cat, and a few indoor plants.

We will be away for most of your stay, so you’ll have almost complete freedom to enjoy the space and immerse yourself in the surroundings.
