Description
We are a Dutch family of 4, with parents in their early 50’s, a daughter of 15 and a son of 11 years old. We will be moving to Jättendal in Sweden (3 hours by car north of Stockholm) in March 2027, where we bought a house and lodge (10 cabins, 16 camperspots and an event venue often booked for weddings and dancing evenings during the main season). The lodge will already be fully operational from the start as we are continuing the existing business. It’s a beautiful, quiet place with a view on a lake (possibility to canoe, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming), forests nearby (hiking, mountainbiking) and the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia 7 km from our place. Cities like Hudiksvall (+/- 30 km) and Sundsvall (+/- 50 km) are pretty close by.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers can benefit from a cultural exchange through the frequent interactions with our family, both during the meals that we will have together as well as the activities that will be done jointly. They can learn from Dutch living in Sweden, our gardening skills, our experiences with moving abroad and our experience of running a B&B lodge/camping.

Help
We like to have some help with various activities in and around the house. During your stay, we will provide accommodation (one of the cabins or you can come with your own campervan), meals etc. throughout the day and the possibility to enjoy life in the Swedish nature and culture. We’re also open to sharing our learnings from moving to Sweden.
You will not be helping with paying guests or maintenance of spaces used by paying guests. The requested help will only be in our private home/garden and not in any spaces that will be used by lodge guests.
Depending on the season and your interests, you could help us with projects such as:
Creating a private vegetable garden:
Help us design and build our own vegetable garden, prepare the soil, plant vegetables and discover what grows well in the Swedish climate.
Interior projects:
Help us make our own house feel more welcoming, for example by hanging curtains, putting up shelves or working on other small interior projects.
Outdoor projects (private area):
We plan putting up a trampoline and a swing for our children, creating outdoor seating areas or improving parts of the grounds.
Helping indoors:
Cooking meals for our family, cleaning our house, supporting our children with their homework and/or other activities.
Helping outdoors (private area):
There is plenty of space around our place, so there are seasonal outdoor projects such as clearing, planting, maintaining paths and working in the private garden.
Creative projects:
If you have a creative skill or an idea you’d like to share, we’d love to hear about it. We enjoy learning from our volunteers too.
We're open to exchange cultural experiences and sharing our learnings from moving to Sweden (from the Netherlands) and from our experience of running a B&B lodge/camping. -

Accommodation
We have several 4-person, 2-bedroom cabins available. Depending on availability, you may need to share a cabin with another Workawayer, but you’ll still have your own bedroom (so only sharing living room/kitchen and shower). We expect you to clean the cabin you are using by yourself. If you come with your campervan, of course that’s possible too. We will provide meals etc. throughout the day.
