I am a documentary filmmaker, a visual storyteller and a mother living in Cape Town. I live with my husband Stephen and our two children, Gabriel age 6, and Azara, age 8. We live in a family home in a beautiful part of Cape Town near a vlei (or lake) that runs into the Indian Ocean at Muizenberg Beach just 5 minutes away. As a family we are big outdoor enthusiasts, and love swimming and diving in the ocean, running and hiking on the mountain and spending time in the wilderness. We love travelling around our country and camping in wild places, and do so as often as we can.
Both myself and my husband's work focuses on sustainability and climate change - shifting our understanding of our impact on the planet. Stephen works to support the city to create a plan for a zero carbon economy and more circular thinking, and I tell stories through video about climate change, sustainability and regeneration. We try to live a low impact lifestyle in everything we do, from the food we eat and clothes we buy, and how we move around. We eat a mostly plant based diet at home, and are growing as many vegetables in our home food garden as we can.
We are currently in a lockdown in our country due to the COVID-19 virus, and our children's school is therefore closed and they are at home doing homeschooling activities. As both of us are working full time with our work and projects, we are looking for some support for our children's learning. Our children are energetic, lively with enquiring minds always looking for an adventure or new tree to climb.

We love meeting new people, and love sharing adventurous activities, like cycling, running in the mountains, ocean swimming, hiking, and kayaking on our nearby lake/vlei. A visitor will also learn more about this unique beautiful part of Cape Town that we live in, with the Muizenberg beach only 5 minutes away, and a number of historical and cultural areas in close proximity.
A volunteer with our family will learn more about the Waldorf education system, and be able to learn about learning for preschool and early years education.
We are looking for someone who loves spending time with children to support them with their learning, do activities indoors and outdoors, and keep them interested and engaged.
We are currently in a lockdown in our country due to the COVID-19 virus, and as many parts of our country are not in operation, our children's school is also closed and they are at home doing homeschooling activities. As both of us are working full time with our work and various projects, we are looking for some support for our children's learning. We anticipate that the children will only go back to school in July or August. Our children attend a Waldorf school, so their learning is usually very creative and not screen/digitally based, and we'd love a volunteer who is interested in exploring creative ways of facilitating their learning.
We'd also need you to do some gardening, maybe some cooking and general help around the house.
You will stay in a self contained loft apartment above our home. This loft has an open plan space with a double bed, a bathroom with a shower, a sitting/living room space and a kitchen. The kitchen is fully fitted with a gas stove, oven, fridge, all crockery and cutlery and pots and pans.
This loft space is completely private with it's own entrance and small outside landing/deck. You could prepare your own food in the loft space or eat some meals with our family, or a mix of both. We love cooking and preparing food from scratch using fruit and vegetables.
We live near to a touristic and scenic part of Cape Town, which has many beautiful sites to visit, like the African penguin colony, a small fishing harbour and great quaint shops in Kalk Bay, many coves and swimming beaches, places to hike and explore just a walk away. We spend as much time as we can outdoors, visiting the ocean often to swim and snorkel, and also do a lot of hiking and running on the mountain. We also own 3 different kayaks and you could walk down to the lake for explore the Zandvlei by boat. The adventures are endless!
