We are Michigan's only and best hostel. We are dedicated to showcasing and educating visitors from around the world about the past, present, and future of Detroit.
We operate as a 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit that exists for the sake of cultural exchange and education in Detroit. Our organization was started by volunteers, has an active volunteer culture that allows us to do the work we are doing and continue to offer opportunities that make it easier to visit and learn about Detroit. We are ambassadors for Detroit.
Detroit is the birthplace of the middle class, the birthplace of the automobile, the birthplace of techno and home to some of the most innovative people on the planet making and creating in a city that many have long considered dead. We believe in our city and want to share it with the world. Since opening in 2011, we have hosted over 15k travelers from over 80 countries and have created over $3.5 million in economic impact for our neighborhood and city.
We are located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit. We have space for 34 people split between dorm-style and private accommodation. We are nestled in an area known for its urban farms, food, and music right outside of Downtown Detroit.

Travelers will get to experience Detroit like a local. We will help you have the best time possible in the city all while learning about the amazing things that have happened and are happening here. We will connect you with our hostel network and you will leave with a greater sense on how Detroit changed and is still changing the world.
We sometimes bring on work-stay volunteer where we offer a free space to stay for up to a 2 week period in exchange for help at the hostel. This usually means that you would be helping us keep the place clean, restock supplies, change bedding, do laundry and help with guest needs. We have also offered these work-stay arrangements to talented graphic designers, video artists and photographers that could help us with marketing projects.
We are not a business or a hotel property. None of our volunteers replace staff.
We would love to hear a pitch on how you could help us in exchange for a place to stay.
Typically we offer a bunk in one of our dorms and free reign on any extra food in our pantry/ refrigerator.
