Description
Hi there! We're Diana and Diana, living in the village of Carbunari, Maramures.
In our professional lives, one of us is a graphic designer, while the other is a trainer/facilitator and a music teacher. Our shared passions lie in arts and crafts, cultures, customs and traditions, mythology and folklore, as well as in nature and foraging.
We love animals and we are both advocates for animal rescue and welfare. We currently have two cats and a three-legged dog, all rescued.
Together, we not only care for this place but also run a small NGO dedicated to fostering dialogue between divides, and to youth and women empowerment. Through our NGO work, we are also connected to a wider, international network of changemakers.
Our hope is to share our love for nature and our place with individuals seeking a break from city life, looking to recharge their batteries and reconnect with themselves in a more natural environment.
We are looking forward to exchanging ideas and inspiration with you, and to learning from your experiences and unique perspectives.Types of help and learning opportunities

Maramures is well-known for its traditions, folklore and culture, for the UNESCO-protected wooden churches and its warm-hearted locals. We are more than happy to explore all these topics together over our shared meals. We are also happy to share on the art of foraging for mushrooms and medicinal plants, and on the art of preserving food for winter in traditional ways. You can join us in rescuing and restoring old objects or crafting from recycled materials. We can give tips or take you to visit some places, from the most well-known attractions in Maramures, to some hidden gems and less traveled places, all full of charm and surprise.
If you are curious about Romanian language, we will make sure that you'll leave here knowing a few words and phrases, and we can even share about local accents, regionalisms, and language influences.Help
Tasks can include:
- basic house maintenance (cleaning and small repairs in rooms and shared spaces)
- outdoor maintenance (cutting grass, fixing fences, etc.)
- orchard and garden tasks (picking fruit, raking leaves, turning the compost, etc.)
- tending to our small veggie patches (watering plants, picking veggies, weeding, etc.)
- preserving food (cutting and drying fruit, making jams)
- We may also explore various DIY projects together.
On more relaxing days, we can explore the nearby forest for mushrooms, medicinal herbs and edible plants.
Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is a step forward in maintaining the place and fulfilling our vision.Languages

There are two houses on the property: a small one (the private quarter), and a bigger one for our guests, family and friends. During your stay, we offer accommodation in the guesthouse. There are 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and it can comfortably accommodate up to 9 people. Both houses are surrounded by a small organic orchard.
We'll offer one cooked meal every day, usually dinner. For the rest of the meals, you'll have access to a well-equipped kitchen, where you can prepare food and cook. We will make sure there’s everything in the fridge for a nice breakfast and all the ingredients you need to fix yourself lunch.
We are both pescatarian, so the food we offer will be either vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, or pescatarian (depending also on your dietary needs). You should also feel free to buy and cook whatever feels right for you. What else ...
In your free time, there are quite some places to explore either in Baia Mare or throughout Maramures County. You can walk the streets of Baia Mare's historic center, discover the UNESCO-protected wooden churches throughout Maramures, take a hike in the mountains, learn about old village life and local traditions at the Village Museum, or just take a scenic route through countryside, where you can spot traditional wooden gates, haystacks and villagers working using old traditional tools or all dressed up for church on Sunday. Maramures has a lot to offer and, depending on your interests, we can give you good tips on where to go and what to see.
While our village doesn't have great bus connections, we're only a 15 minute drive from Baia Mare, which is well-connected to the rest of the country. We are happy to assist you with logistics, arrange transportation, or pick you up / drop you off in Baia Mare when needed.
For any urgent needs, there are two shops in our village, both within walking distance (10 minutes walk), and both accepting cash, credit and debit cards.
The nearest airports are the Baia Mare International Airport (30 km), Satu Mare International Airport (85 km) and Cluj "Avram Iancu" International Airport (120 km).A little more information
