Description
Hi! We are Wouter & Caro, and together with our dog Daisy, we recently made the move from Belgium to Cantabria, northern Spain.
We chose this region because we wanted to live closer to nature and slow life down. We were looking for more fresh air, more time outside and fewer distractions, but also: space for a vegetable garden, space for creativity, time to surf, and a home we can share with friends, family and open-minded people. Chasing our "La Vida Simple" dream.
Daisy is an adopted dog, and creating a calm and safe environment for her was an important part of this move.
We bought a beautiful house near the small village of La Cavada, a quiet and authentic place with a supermarket, bakery and butcher, all within a 10-minute walk. Our home is the last house on the street.
From the moment you walk through our gate, you enter a true green paradise, with a 1.3-hectare garden and endless mountain views of Las Tetas de Liérganes, and only a 20-minute drive from the sea. Because of this special setting, we named our home. From the moment we first saw this place, we knew this was where we wanted to start a new chapter together and share this experience with others.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
For us, cultural exchange is about sharing a place and an experience, while everyone keeps their own rhythm and space.
Workawayers stay in a separate guesthouse, offering privacy and independence in daily life. As we are currently quite busy with the house and working with certain deadlines, we don’t have fixed moments together, but we do enjoy sharing a meal, a coffee or a conversation from time to time, whenever it feels natural and spontaneous.
We are happy to share tips about the local area, nature, surf spots and nearby villages, and to exchange experiences about moving abroad and living in Spain. If you are into surfing, there is also the possibility to go surfing together, and Wouter is a surf coach, so he is always happy to share tips or give a surf session when timing allows.
By hosting people from different backgrounds, we hope for a relaxed and open exchange, where everyone feels welcome, comfortable and free to be themselves.

Help
We are looking for one or two practical, hands-on people (friends or a couple are very welcome) who enjoy helping with the ongoing creation of our dream home.
We are specifically looking for people with experience in light DIY and garden help. The house itself is already in very good condition, so this is not heavy construction work. Most of the help is about finishing touches and adapting the house to our own style and way of living.
Tasks can include small finishing tasks such as cleaning plaster residues from wooden beams, helping with placing and moving furniture, sanding furniture, light painting and general help around the house.
We also need support in the garden: mowing grass, maintaining the land, and cutting back a large amount of laurel trees, which currently affect the health of other trees.
There is also a small bathroom project where some more hands-on help is needed. We help together on the tasks and are happy to share skills, learn from each other and make it a collaborative and relaxed experience.

Accommodation
We offer a comfortable and private accommodation for our Workawayers in a fully equipped bedroom with a private bathroom. The room has a double bed, making it suitable for one or two people (ideal for friends or a couple).
Everything needed is provided: a proper bed and mattress, blankets, pillows and towels, so you can settle in comfortably from the first day.
Downstairs, there is a separate kitchen available for Workawayers, fully equipped with a fridge and all basic facilities. There is also a living area in progress, which may already be usable depending on the stage of the project.
(Please be aware that the pictures of the living room, bathroom and bedroom show their original state. We are currently in the process of adapting these spaces to our own style as part of the ongoing project)
As this is a small and personal project, we are flexible when it comes to food. We can provide breakfast, adapted to your preferences or needs. For lunch, we offer a stocked fridge, so you can prepare your own sandwich or light meal. In the evening, we usually provide a warm dinner, vegetarian or with meat, depending on preferences.
We value comfort, cleanliness and clear communication, and we want everyone to feel at home 🙂
What else ...
Our place is located in a rural area, surrounded by nature. While the village of La Cavada is within walking distance, having your own car is strongly recommended for getting around, doing groceries, exploring the area and reaching the coast or surf spots more easily.
We are very flexible and open-minded, and because this is a small and personal project, helping days, hours and rhythm are always open for discussion. We believe in finding a balance that works well for everyone, both for us and for the Workawayers.
