Chandni came to stay for two weeks in December and was a massive help while she was here.
As soon as she arrived we got on well straight away. Very easy to get along with we chatted until late about our lives and travel stories. Although fairly new to Workaway, Chandni is well travelled and has experienced many different cultures.

Chandni has a garden of her own and so knows her way around a vegetable patch. She even taught me a new way of planting out onions.
Apart from being a great help with all the practical tasks we did while she was here Chandni is also a great house guest. A fantastic cook, she helped in the kitchen and kept things clean and tidy. Kind, considerate and respectful, if Chandni has offered to come and help at your place I definitely recommend that you accept.
Thanks for all your help Chandni, welcome back here any time and good luck on your travels :)

I had a wonderful two weeks staying with Scott! He had been away for a few months and we arrived at his place only a couple of days apart so there was plenty to do.

Unfortunately it was quite rainy during my time there but when the sun came out it was very warm (even in December) and I loved working on the garden terraces. I weeded the vegetable beds, collected nettles for making fertilizer, helped him gather compost materials, planted some new seedlings, moved some very heavy concrete poles, pruned the fig trees and made cuttings. Whenever it rained too hard we ran into his truck parked there to take shelter.
The rain also gave us time to do indoor things so I helped with some cleaning, sorting, sanding the walls of "the witch's kitchen" and we took turns cooking. Even though we had different eating routines it worked out great since Scott was very flexible too. His lovely dog Nia was very well behaved and it felt sad when she was howling the day I left.
It was magical to be able to walk around all the fruit trees and just eat them straight off them! I went for a few walks during my time there and the ecopista was lovely, leading to some beautiful sights over the valleys and through some nice forests. Walking through the village I met some of the neighbours, who were extremely friendly and chatted away despite our language barrier. I even got some oranges gifted to me by the owner of the land next door.
The weeks went by fast and it was a great second Workaway experience. Thank you Scott for all the fruit, conversations, food, friendship and teaching me about your permaculture experiences. I hope meet you there again and experience the place when it's in full swing! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Well this is something I am upset writing because I am not still in Portugal working with Scott.

As it was the middle of the winter there wasn't much to do in the garden so we cracked on with a construction job which I feel I got stuck into. I can't describe the fun we had working together on this. there were hard days that ended with complete gratification. I have learnt a lot about areas I didn't have a clue on and I thank Scott for this.
Scott and I would eat together every evening, we both have very similar thoughts and routines when it comes to food. Resulting in conversations, knowledge exchange and beautiful meals every night. I also experienced classic Portuguese food as we eat out with friends as often as we could. for anyone going to Scotts place you have to try a Restaurant called "combinado 2" this is an amazing place.
Scott thank you very much for everything and I can't wait to come back!!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Jack came here to help me for two months and having him here to stay was a great experience.

I was able to leave him unattended with certain tasks freeing me up to work on other things and this really helped to move the job along. This young man is definitely not scared of hard work and being fit and strong he coped easily with the more physical side of construction work.
But apart from being a great practical help Jack was a pleasure to have around. we got on very well and he was always conscientious about everything including keeping the kitchen and house clean and tidy. With both of us having an interest in nutrition we shared delicious meals and cooking duties.
Having just started travelling this year, Jacks enthusiasm for new places and experiences was infectious. All my friends and neighbours in the area who met him agreed that he is a pleasure to have around and we have all missed him since he has left.
Welcome back anytime and hopefully not before too long.
Happy travels Jack!

Sonia came here to help for a few weeks in the autumn and was a great help the whole time she was here and a pleasure to host. A very open and honest person, within an hour of her arriving we were chatting as if we had known each other for years and became good friends over her stay.

It was a sad day when she left, i miss our language lessons and chats.
Thank you Sonia

I was on Scott's Farm for 2 weeks and would recommend it to anyone who is willing to work!

Agnieszka has been here for almost two weeks now and has been a big help. a little bit shy at first but I think that was due to a lack of confidence in speaking English, it didn't take her long to settle in and gain confidence and her English has gotten better every day. she has helped with lots of different tasks in the garden and helped with

While he was here Goran helped with lots of different tasks and nothing was a chore to him. We cut back some trees, made compost, worked in the veggie garden and he was always eager to learn and seemed happy with the work whatever the task.

A clean, tidy, hard working, fun and interesting person. Goran would be welcome back here any time. If he has applied to come and help you i can highly recommend you say yes.
Thank you Goran for all your help and good luck on your travels.

Where to start with my with my wonderful experience at Scott's place...
Maybe with Scott himself😊
Scott is a very friendly, very positive and uplifting person. He has this natural gift of making everything just a little bit more funny and interesting.
From the moment I came I felt like we knew each other for ages. He creates a very 'family
… read more like' atmosphere.
He might not be the most organized person (his words, not mine😂), but he always takes time to make sure that you understand the tasks and that you are able to do them.
This was my first experience on an organic farm and even in the short time I was there (2 weeks) I learned a lot. Scott always shares his experiences and helps with making the tasks easier.
He also tries to change tasks so that they don't get boring.
In my 2 weeks there i did gardening, cleaning, compost turning, pruning, harvesting, wood chopping and a lot of other chores that go with life on an organic farm. Work can be physical but it is always manageable with a nice tea/coffee brake half way through the 5 hrs. And there is always something to smile about in the process 😉
Apart from Scott and a peaceful and wonderful surroundings you will be welcomed by Nia, his gentle and loving dog that loves belly rubs and has the kindest eyes in the world.
You will also get to meet some of the other land owners, workawayers and I was lucky to be there at the same time as Becky. She was house sitting at the time but she also worked as a workawayer and she was helpful at every turn and contributed greatly to making this experience as great as it was.
If you are looking for an oasis of peace where you can learn a lot and have space and time for exploring the nature, then this is your place.
I will definitely come back and visit at one point and I'm looking forward to kicking Scott's ass in card games again😂

My time at Scott's place was really really perfect. It was the perfect combination of fun and good work. Rebecca was a great helper while she was here and a great friend since she has left too. Arriving in late spring early summer there was a lot to do in the garden, sowing, planting and taking care of seedlings is a busy time. Becky got on with any tasks asked of her with a great attitude, a smile and some cracking tunes on in the background too
… read more from her extensive playlist.
As well as being a lot of help with the practical day to day tasks of gardening, cooking and cleaning up I quickly felt able to trust Becky enough for her to look after my place while i was away for a few weeks. I got back to a fantastic looking garden and a freezer full of food (and a slightly fatter dog ;)). She had clearly worked hard while i was away and taken great care of everything.
We hit it off so well that an initial hosting of a couple of weeks turned into the whole summer and into autumn. I can highly recommend Becky as a Workawayer and I'm looking forward to having her come back and visit soon.
Thanks for all your hard work Rebecca, it's much appreciated.

I came to work for Scott for two weeks, but the two weeks turned into about four months! I learned so much staying with Scott, learning about composting, planting and harvesting vegetables. The food was plentiful and Scott and I took turns cooking. Scott is a great cook and a super fun person to have any number of conversations with. We enjoyed taking the piss out of each other. The work was fair (but not easy-it is homesteading, after all!) and extremely rewarding. But I also felt that it was important to Scott that I do tasks that I personally enjoyed and learned something from.
The surrounding area is fabulous. It is quite rural, but for me, this is the true Portugal. Full of incredible local people, who you will likely have an opportunity to meet. I still stay in touch with one of Scott’s Portuguese neighbors, a sweet lady who would invite me for coffee even though she speaks no English and I do not speak Portuguese. There are lots of hiking trails and there is a walking path that takes about 35-40 minutes to get to São) Pedro de Sul, which is a small-ish city with three grocery stores and several cafes and shops. The village directly beside Scott’s place also has a fun cafe to stop in, and I believe a glass of wine will set you back about 0.50!!!
There are several neighbors who all hang out together here. Overall, it’s just a really great place to do an exchange. I highly recommend! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Where to begin... my few weeks at this beautiful place have been absolutely incredible. I have completed a few work exchanges now and this is by far my best one! Both Scott and Annegret have been so fun to be around, I have learn't so much not just about permaculture and organic farming but also about the history of the surrounding villages (which

The work is really interesting and fulfilling, I have done a whole range of things but to list a few: planting, composting, weeding, harvesting fruits/vegis, general maintenance. These are just some of the jobs I got to do but Scott and Annegret are a wealth of knowledge on a whole range of things so this is such a great place to come and learn about all different kinds of stuff.
The food here is amazing and plentiful! we ate a range of different dishes and a lot of the food we ate came from the farm which felt great. Both, Scott and Annegrets cooking is some of the best I have ever had, so creative and diverse. The accommodation is so comfy and cosy, a lovely apartment where you have your own space and amenities so you can really relax after work and on your days off. The surrounding area is stunning! so many different hikes and interesting things to see as well as being in walking distance to a city with everything you need as well as some cool things to see. So if you love interesting work, great chats and amazing food this is definitely the place for you! I honestly can't thank you both enough, all the best and I shall be back :)You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
