Covid Special....
Are you currently in Thailand and have construction experience?
Its low season and so we are looking to finish up some projects. We need help with rendering (plastering), welding (stick/arc), drywall (sheetrock/gypsum), and painting.
So if your into any of these and want to spend a week or two on a beautiful tropical island, give us a shout!

We are a small volunteer vet clinic caring for Koh Mak's stray, temple & owned animals and dedicated to improving their lives since 2016.
We are a Non-Profit organization and rely entirely on donations, volunteers and sponsorship to carry out our work. We receive no government funding, and rely heavily on the good-will of the local community, tourists and friends.
We would like to provide medical care and also to have a dedicated neutering and vaccination program carried out with the help of volunteer vets when they visit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are seeking volunteers with veterinary experience. Ideal would be plenty of spay/neuter experience.
We need volunteers to take the lead on services such as surgeries, vaccinations, and wound care.
IN ADDITION: We would also very much welcome someone with perhaps less "professional vet" experience, but who was able to commit for a longer period (2-3 months or longer) months to act as "OFFICE MANAGER". Neat, Tidy and organized is a must. :-)
Duties (if you are not a Vet) would include but not be limited to: Coordinate incoming Vets and Nurses, manage clinic stocks, clean and upkeep on the clinic and grounds, speak to folks who stop by and are curious about the clinic, receive donations, handle non emergency walk ins, and promote the clinic with island residents.
Our goal is to keep Koh Mak rabies free, through vaccination and education.
We can control the dog and cat population through neutering of all stray and temple animals and through promotion of the sterilizing of owned animals. We want to be able to provide nursing care to animals in crisis and work to educate the public in responsible animal care.
The island is just off the coast of Cambodia, so the folks who live here come from both Thailand and Cambodia.
People working with the clinic will get a chance to interact with both of these similar but different cultures.
In addition they will get to experience first hand how Buddhism is the cornerstone of both cultures.
We work closely with the islands residents, so you will get a chance to how they live and experience island life.
We are looking for:
Vets, and Vet Nurses.
Initially we will be looking at setting up and stocking the clinic, and creating best practices for a clinic that will have revolving doctors.
The animal related things would be to create and implement a campaign to vaccinate all animals on the island (hopefully with tags and collars). No rabies on island currently, but we do have Distemper and Parvo. And a lot of mange and heart worm.
Create an culturally appropriate ongoing sterilization project for owned pets as well as strays. (There is a once a year sterilization program, but it dosen't get the litters born between. And also some dogs cannot be caught on the one day, and so we need more time)
And then accident/crisis care as it comes up.
This will be a great place to hone your skills as you will be in effect the manager of the clinic when you are here. Please understand this aspect.
Koh Mak is not a huge island, and so total management is possible with ongoing work.
There is also a scooter available for clinic use.
In addition we would like to setup a training program for folks on island be able to assist visiting vets. Maybe 4-5 people at a time. Learning prep, instrument ID, anesthesia, etc.
We won't always get a vet and an assistant together (although this is the ideal paring), so we hope to train a bunch here on island so when we have a doctor visiting we can have additional staff.
The clinic has a small self contained apartment as part of the structure. (In fall of 2018 we will have 2 new bedrooms, for a total of 3 rooms.)
The cozy bedroom has a king bed, armoire and fan. There is a covered terrace with a table and chairs, and a Thai style bathroom with shower.
A covered outdoor kitchen completes the apartment.
Food is not included as the clinic is a standalone unit, but meals on island start at 35baht.
Koh Mak is located in an archipelago of 50+ islands on the far eastern seaboard of Thailand.
There is plenty of opportunity for swimming, snorkeling, diving and Kayaking. On land, there are bicycling trails, muai Thai, tennis, and plenty of restaurants and bars.
Koh Mak is a small island, and the "coconut wireless" speed is very fast. It's like a small village, with everyone knowing the goings on.
Transport from Bangkok can be via small plane, taxi, bus, or minibus. The trip by land takes about 5 hours. There is then a 45 minute boat ride to the island.
