    Description

August 2021: Norwegian summer is comming to an end. So until spring 2022 there will be no waws at my place. Good luck to you all in finding other places to do waw.

Cosy small house/cottage in the countryside, by the sea, north of Norway, land of the midnight sun, 15 km from Bodø town center. Large lawn, nice terrace, garage - all in need of maintenance. Beautifull walks in the mountains just behind or along the seaside

I am the only one living here for the time beeing, with my two dogs. During busy working periods I would like help with basic housekeeping and maintenance mainly outside and maybe some dog walking. Medium sized dogs, friendly but active. I am currently teaching at the university.

The Waws will share kitchen and bathroom with me. There are two spare bedrooms. You are not expected to cook for me on a regular basis or work long hours on never-ending-projects, but to enjoy your self.

I enjoy very much to learn about daily life and traditions in foreign contries. I also read a lot and like to discuss books, litterature, science and politics so I hope you share some of these interests and like a chat around the dinner table.
I hope to inspire you to like nature, easy living, camping, hiking and not to care so much about the weather.

My recommondation is to come two together (share bedroom or have separate bedrooms), else it might get a bit too quite as you will be alone in the house when I am away and there is not much to do besides hiking or biking (and do the work) and the public transport is limited.

But of course a single person is also welcome but do not get disappointed if you find my place desolate, especially if the weather is bad.

Town center 15 km away, public transport/bus service is it not good. The latest bus from the town center to my house leaves town at 17.ish, so visiting pubs etc. in the evenings is difficult.

I just want friendly, tidy, easy going persons with normal experience in housekeeping, dog walking, gardening and other basic maintenance jobs like painting, maybe also some wood chopping for the fireplace. There will be no fixed work shedule so you will be free to decide when to do the work. I hope you can climb a ladder without getting dizzy,

No smokers. No vegans (too complicated). I do not drink coffeeand will only provide instant coffe.

Do not bring cash as exchange to norwegian currency is difficult.

    Accommodation

Bedroom on the first floor with one single bed and one small double bed. Suitable for a couple or good friends as the bedrom is rather small. I will provide bed linens and towels.

In addition there is a large sleeping area in the "library" on the first floor, with two beds. Suitable for friends. Not so much privacy in this sleeping area.

I prefer only 2 (sharing the other room) at the same time. But of course - you will be free to choose room and here are enough beds for more people than 2.

The stairs to the first floor are rather steep and narrow. Not suitable for people with disabilities.

Share kitchen and bathroom with me. Large bathroom with tub and shower. Small kitchen with kitchen table just fine for three persons. You are free to cook your own meals. I will provide decent food, not only cheap pasta. I do not have a fixed shedule for meals. The Waws are not expected to cook meals for me but I hope we most days can share a meal and have interesting conversations.

Living room divided in two sections, two sofas and a dining area. There are a lot of wooden floors so you are expected to take your shoes off before entering (a norwegian custome).

There is no TV in the house. There is WIFI available to a limited extent. Netflix movies might be difficult.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The nearest ctiy, Bodø, is the gateway to the Lofoten islands. It is possible to combine a visit to my place with going to Lofoten. The public transport from town center to Lofoten during the summer months are fairly good.

There is a bus connection to Bodø from my house but the departures are not frequent. In Bodø there are a cinema, concert hall, aviation museum, lots of shops, pubs and restaurants and a nice harbour.

The penninsula Kjerringøy is 15 minutes and a ferry away with the traditional handelssted to be visited, a popular tourist destination.

The famous stream, Saltstrømmen, is 45 minutes away. Here the fishing opportunites are great.

You can take the track just behind the house to go up the mountain or stroll along the seaside. There are several hiking routes to tops, easily reached in 2 hours walking and with spectacular view of the Lofoten islands.

Fishing is free in the sea. There are a lot of hidden small beaches with white sand all around where you can camp. The most well known, Mjelle, beach is 10 minutes away. You may use my bikes to get around.

I like my days to be peaceful and to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I do a lot of walks in the mountains with my dogs. I pick some berries in the autumn and also some mushrooms. I like to keep the garden and the outdoor surrondings tidy. In my house all though there are evidence of the presence of dogs everywhere. During the summer I like to invite friends for a barbeque or just some snack in the garden.

Please be aware of the fact that summer season in Norway ends approximatley 10/15th of August and afterwards public transport and opening hours at tourist attractions might be even more limited and the temperature drops.
