2020: IS FULL
Cosy small house/cottage in the countryside, by the sea, north of Norway, land of the midnight sun, 15 km from Bodø town center. Large lawn, nice terrace, garage - all in need of some painting and maintance. Beautifull walks in the mountains just behind or along the seaside
I am the only one living here for the time beeing, with my two dogs. During busy working periods I would like help with housekeeping and maintance mainly outside and maybe some dog walking. I will be travelling a bit May/June 2020 and might need someone to do the garden and some other maintance while I am away. Medium sized dogs, friendly but active. I am currently teaching at the university.
The WaW will share kitchen and bathroom with me. There are two spare bedrooms. If we get along well, the WaW may use my "extra" car. You are not expected to cook or work long hours on never-ending-projects, but to enjoy your self.
Help in the house
Silent rertreat alike surrondings. My recommondation is to come two together, else it might get a bit too quite. Only thing to do around here is to go walking/hiking on the beach, in the forest or up to the mountains nearby . Experiencing the long summer nights and midnight sun in nothern Norway.
Town 15 km away, bus connection it not to good.
I enjoy very much to learn about daily life and traditions in foreign contries. I also read a lot and like to discuss books, litterature, science and politics so I hope you share some of these interests and like a chat around the dinner table.
I hope to inspire you to like nature, easy living, camping, hiking and not to care so much about the weather.
I just want friendly, tidy, easy going persons with normal experience in housekeeping, dog walking, gardening and other basic maintanance jobs like painting. Maybe also some wood chopping for the fireplace. There will be no fixed work shedule so you will be free to decide when to do the work. I hope you can climb a ladder without getting dizzy,
Do not bring cash as exchange to norwegian currency is difficult.
Norwegian, english, some german and some italian
Bedroom on the first floor with one single bed and one small double bed. Suitable for a couple or good friends as the bedrom is rather small. I will provide bed linens and towels
In addition there is a large sleeping area in the "library" on the first floor, with two (4) beds. Suitable for friends. Not so much privacy in this sleeping area so I prefer only 2 (sharing the other room) at the same time.
The stairs to the first floor are rather steep and narrow.
Share kitchen and bathroom with me. Large bathroom with tub and shower. Small kitchen with kitchen table just fine for three persons. You are free to cook your own meals. I will provide decent food, not only cheap pasta. I do not have a fixed shedule for meals. The WW are not expected to cook meals for me but I hope we most days can share a meal and have interesting conversations.
Living room divided in two sections, two sofas and a dining area. There are a lot of wooden floors so you are expected to take your shoes off before entering (a norwegian custome)
There is no TV in the house. There is WIFI available to a limited extent.
The nearest ctiy, Bodø, is the gateway to the Lofoten islands. It is possible to combine a visit to my place with going to Lofoten.
There is a bus connection to Bodø but the departures are not frequent. In Bodø there are a cinema, concert hall, aviation museum, lots of shops, pubs and restaurants.
The penninsula Kjerringøy is 15 minutes and a ferry away with the traditional handelssted to be visited.
The famous stream, Saltstrømmen, is 45 minutes away. Here the fishing opportunites are great.
You can take the track just behind the house to go up the mountain or stroll along the seaside. There are several hiking routes to tops, easily reached in 2 hours walking and with spectacular view of the Lofoten islands.
Fishing is free in the sea. There are a lot of hidden small beaches with white sand all around where you can camp. The most well known, Mjelle, beach is 10 minutes away. You may use my bikes to get around.
I like my days to be peaceful and to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I do a lot of walks in the mountains with my dogs. I pick some berries in the autumn and also some mushrooms. I like to keep the garden and the outdoor surrondings tidy. In my house all though there are evidence of the presence of dogs everywhere. During the summer I like to invite friends for a barbeque or just some sncak in the garden.
