    Join our family and help us with painting right next to the beach in Island Bay, Wellington City, New Zealand

    We are ex-backpackers, now in our 60s. I back-packed the world alone with my daughter for 8 months when she was 12. We are keen dancers and skiers, and pretty mean Rummikub players. We have 2 spoodle dogs whom we walk on the beach across the road every day. David is a teacher and I am a property manager and Justice of the Peace. Our friend Matt lives here as well - he is a retired university lecturer and sometimes goes hiking or kayaking with our guests. We offer a single bedroom overlooking the lighthouse and beach, in a house with 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms, directly opposite Island Bay beach, and great food, in exchange for 3 hours per day help from someone with painting, handiperson, cleaning or organising skills.

    We have lived in Wellington for over 50 years, so we are great local guides to help you make the most of your time in our lovely city. David goes for an hour's run or walk every day, and is happy to take you with him to different places of beauty in the area. I have great plastering & DIY skills I am happy to teach. I can also teach you to cook the best genuine kiwi pavlova!

    Single bedroom with view over the lighthouse and beach, in a house with 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms, directly opposite Island Bay beach. I cook most of the meals, but occasionally you will need to raid the fridge for yourself.

    Close to Island Bay bus, 15 minutes walk to Island Bay shops & cinema, close to City-to-Sea walkway, close to walkway to seal colony. We have dolphins swimming in the sea in front of our house quite often and occasionally orcas. You are welcome to use our bikes and kayak.
