    Description

    Hello!

We are four people and three dogs sharing a forested, 100-acre oceanside property on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. Yaro and Savayda live here with their dogs Rexy and Pico, while Wouter, his son Ben, and their dog Nala live next door in a separate home.

Our land is truly special, featuring a stunning coastline, over 5 km of hiking trails, and five islands waiting to be explored. We also have a traditional wood-fired Finnish sauna. Since moving here in 2019, we’ve immersed ourselves in nature, enjoying hiking, biking, sauna sessions, hydrotherapy, swimming, boating, and the abundant natural beauty of the area.

We tend organic vegetable and herb gardens and raise chickens for fresh eggs. Between us, we offer a diverse range of skills, including herbal medicine, wild foraging, gardening, carpentry, and boating.

Tasks typically include helping to mow grass, trim hedges, pull weeds, maintain our wood-fired sauna, stack firewood, and assist with general property care. Any previous experience or interest in these activities is a big plus, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are most important. In addition to help with basic property care, we also warmly invite volunteers with creative or technical expertise—especially social media, photography, videography, or graphic design—to help us tell the story and share its magic with the world.

We do not consume alcohol or drugs, and we respectfully ask the same from our volunteers.

Being here is peaceful and restorative—guests consistently tell us they feel a sense of peace and enchantment during their stay.

Volunteer accommodations are available from April 15 through October 30 (weather permitting). We give priority to volunteers who can stay six weeks or longer, WITH A MINIMUM COMMITMENT OF ONE MONTH. PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU CAN COMMIT TO AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS.

We look forward to hearing from you!

  • Help

    Help

Most activities we need help with are physically demanding. We have a few small building projects. We are continuously clearing trails and spaces in the forest, so we would appreciate help clearing brush, movement of gravel, and wood chips to make paths. Plus general property care - trimming hedges, mowing, weed whacking, weeding, help in the garden. We have a small saw mill, so need help hauling logs from the forest, milling and stacking wood.
Good basic health, strength and stamina are an asset.
Sorry, no pets as we already have three on the property, plus free-range birds.
We give priority to guests staying one month or more.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We give priority to guests staying one month or more. We are 10 minutes from the nearest town and 45 minutes from Halifax. The Eastern Shore offers natural and cultural based activities, including the 100 Wild Islands, gorgeous beaches within 20 minutes, farmer's market and heritage sites.
We are situated on the ocean, within a strong culture of fishing and boating, and a slow-paced way of life. All seasons provide opportunity to be outside; we enjoy evening fires by the ocean under a bright sky. Our location appeals to those who prefer time in nature, peace and quiet vs. city/town activities.
