    Description

    Hello and welcome!

My name is Richard Lutaaya, founder of a grassroots community-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable children, youth, and families across Uganda.

I am married and blessed with three wonderful children. My professional background includes a Master's Degree in Social Work and Social Administration, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management, and a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology.

    Our Story

For more than 12 years, I worked closely with people living with HIV/AIDS, delivering life-saving antiretroviral treatment to patients in remote communities. During this work, I witnessed heartbreaking realities. Many parents, especially mothers, lost their lives to illness and poverty, leaving behind children with no one to care for them.

In their final moments, several mothers entrusted me with the future of their children. Their requests touched me deeply and inspired me to take action.

On 29th April 2014, I founded the place with a vision of creating lasting change for vulnerable communities through education, empowerment, healthcare, and sustainable development.

    Our Vision

A society where vulnerable communities live to their full potential.

    Our Mission

To advance equal rights and opportunities for vulnerable members of society, enabling them to improve their quality of life and build brighter futures.

    Our Goal

To create empowered, educated communities where people can make informed choices that lead to positive and lasting change.

    The Challenges We Address

In many rural communities of Uganda, poverty continues to rob children of opportunities. Young girls are often forced into early marriages, while many boys end up in child labor or on the streets. Limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities keeps families trapped in cycles of poverty.

To help address these challenges, we established a community school that supports children who:
Have lost one or both parents
Live with grandparents or elderly caregivers
    Come from extremely poor households
Have dropped out of school due to financial hardship
    Lack access to quality education

Today, our community school enrolls children who have not had an opportunity to get an education and have lost one or both parents, or whose families are in extreme poverty. Although we have made progress, our facilities remain basic, and the infrastructure is in a sorry state. The school still lacks adequate classrooms, windows, doors, furniture, and learning materials, and we still have land for expansion to build a better school and community resource center that will provide quality education, vocational skills, and opportunities for future generations.

    Why We Need Volunteers
We believe that meaningful change happens through partnership, collaboration, and shared humanity.
As a volunteer, you will not simply be visiting Uganda—you will become part of a community working toward sustainable transformation.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, nationalities, professions, and age groups. Whether you are a student, teacher, healthcare professional, social worker, entrepreneur, artist, builder, photographer, or simply someone with a passion for helping others, your skills and ideas can make a real difference.

Our commitment is not only to provide immediate assistance but also to empower communities to thrive independently for generations to come.

    Join Us
Together, we can create opportunities where there are none, restore hope where it has been lost, and build stronger communities for the future.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Cultural exchanges provide an opportunity to explore other cultures, traditions, customs, beliefs, societies, languages and much more. Cultural Exchange is good to interact with and learn from people who are different from themselves and to participate in new and distinctive experiences beyond their own communities. It also helps volunteers to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for participation in our multicultural society. It not only broadens volunteers point of view but also provides opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge.

Learn from the community to plant a communal garden, get schooled in traditional farming, learn to cook delicious local food, sharing history with elderly people, gain insights into our culture and learn about the reality of life in Uganda. You’ll volunteer along side motivated Ugandans in a new ‘hands-on’ project each day.

This excellent learning opportunity of culture, learning about the different types of foods, visiting cultural sites and languages leaves Volunteers with better understanding for people of all sorts. We have a community which is so much welcoming and the children will be very much exited to meet you.

We are always open for new ideas and support around our project.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We provide an accommodation and three meals a day for the volunteer.

The accommodation is comfortable and in a quiet environment. You will stay with me and my family in a place that is safe and away from stress. Our residence is located in Nakiwogo, Entebbe near lake Victoria. Your room has two beds and you have access to a bathroom but our toilets are out. Mosquito nets are provided too. Meals are composed of local foods and you have access to the kitchen. We also provide vegetarian and vegan options. You are generally part of our family.

The area around Entebbe and Kasanje are safe, peaceful and quiet, away from bustling of Kampala town. One can enjoy reading, relaxing, meditating, jogging or working out in beautiful nature.

The accommodation is not in the same area as the school or community. To get there we use a ferry or boat which is free. We only pay transport for Boda Boda (motorcycle taxi) to and from the school community.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

While volunteering with us it's not just a time of working on projects but also time spent experiencing Uganda at large and the different cultures and also embracing nature of the Pearl of Africa.

Volunteers can have time off their usual schedule to visit different National Parks, Cultural sites and the capital Kampala. About your hometown Entebbe there are food markets, beaches (beautiful lake shores), the botanical gardens (with beautiful bird spices), nice cafes and restaurants and much more to explorer.

If you are interested in doing a safari while staying in Uganda please plan on touring with us. The volunteer shall have to pay for their tour/safari trips. It is slightly expensive but worth your time of adventure and experience as one gets to meet with the BIG FIVE in the wilderness. The tour/safari gives back 50% in supporting the needy children and their communities.
