Hello Workawayers i am RICHARD. I am married with two very beautiful daughters and a very handsome son. I hold a masters degree in social works and social administration and a post graduate diploma in Public Administration and Management a psychosocial counselor by profession. Having worked with persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS for over 12 years and most of whom were my clients, many people were left yearning for support and care of which included children, elderly and young mothers(women).
In April 2014, the organisation was founded and registered by the government of Uganda as a Community Based Organisation (CBO)
The organisation and school project started when the need to support vulnerable communities affected by the HIV/AIDS was not met. Many children lost parents and were left with their grand parents who could not even manage to provide a meal to them nor take them to school while others became family leaders at a very tender age. Several young girls got married off due to high poverty while boys ended up on streets.
In this case the NGO opened up as school to give education support to the orphaned and other vulnerable children. The school supports over 150 children of which 10 are orphaned and supported by volunteer families while three are HIV positive and on treatment. The school also has seven teachers who are paid very little money even not paid at times when their are no funds but they keep doing a lot of work to provide an education to the vulnerable children. The main cause of the children not to attend school was due to lack of school fees and failure to have scholastic materials like books, pens, uniforms etc also to note was failure to afford a meal a day and all this is due to high poverty striking hard in their communities.Our school is still in a very bad situation without windows and doors, children have no better desks but use benches as they kneel to write in their books. But with your support, we believe that when we work together in partnership, we bring about ever lasting change for the most needy and vulnerable children and communities at large.
We offer exciting short-term volunteer opportunities in our home. Our volunteer placements are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of nationality or qualifications. Volunteers certainly gain an amazing life experience from their participation in our placement program and we recruit new volunteers all the year round. One can also volunteer while in their home country by; Fundraising, finding donors, writing proposals, linking for partnership and any other support as need might arise.

Cultural exchanges provide an opportunity to explore other cultures, traditions, customs, beliefs, societies, languages and much more. Hence, such opportunities make you view the world with a different lens. This provides alternative perspectives! It broadens one's horizons and increases the tendency of acceptance.
Cultural exchange makes the world a more beautiful, connected place for everyone. If we recognize the intrinsic value that each member of our global community holds, we can better understand one another. If we better understand one another, we can work together for impactful change.
Cultural exchange programs are for connecting, enriching and empowering the global community. Cultural exchange programs expose volunteers from different cultural, geographic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds and provide the opportunity for students to develop a greater understanding of diversity both in their home country and visiting country.
Cultural Exchange Program allows volunteers to interact with and learn from people who are different from themselves and to participate in new and distinctive experiences beyond their own communities. It also helps volunteers to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for participation in our multicultural society. It not only broadens volunteers point of view but also provides opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge.
Certificate of Appreciation
Volunteers shall receive a certificate of appreciation on completion their time volunteering with us.

Get ready to plant a communal garden, fishing sites, get schooled in a traditional farming, and learn to cook delicious Ugandan food, sharing history with elderly people, taking care of them and exchanging the local and traditional culture and many other
Our week begins with having time with community based schools for needy and vulnerable children. You’ll volunteer along side motivated Ugandans in a new ‘hands-on’ project each day.
Gain insights into our culture, learn about the reality of life in Uganda – and support amazing people.
We do not have any fees to charge the Volunteers but one can support us as they may wish; by;
Fundraising or donating to our projects.
How can one Fundraise?
One can hold a fundraiser in support of our programs here in Uganda more so the Education program for the needy and most vulnerable children under our care and support.
Host an Event;
Does your book club, church group, quilters guild or service club like to participate in community service projects that benefit children in need in our community? Groups can organise fundraisers, do bake sales, sale African crafts, walk or run- in support of needy children, car washes and paper product drives to support our kids.
Employer matching gifts;
Many companies will match your gift to nonprofit organizations, which doubles the size of your donation. If your company will match your donation, be sure to request a matching gift form and send it to us with your donation. We’ll take care of the rest!
If your service, company or church group wants to have a direct impact on the Children in our care, consider “adopting” one of our classrooms. By doing this, you become part of our children’s extended family of caring by participating in regular activities with the kids – such as soccer or arts and crafts activities – or helping with regular home maintenance projects.
One can also donate to help us construct a classroom and maybe name it after him or her.
While in the host country, one typically has the chance to thoroughly experience the culture of their host country. This finds themselves completely immersed within a different culture once they have arrived in their host countries, due to differences in the cuisine, architecture, familial tradition, and even the ways in which people carry out conversation! After having spent a significant amount of time within the host country.
This excellent learning opportunity of culture, learning about the different types of foods, visiting cultural sites, Languages, and this typically leaves Volunteers with better understanding for people of all sorts.
Children will be very much exited to meet Volunteers, have fun, and other children will have to touch and feel whether the white skin is the same like there's or its different.
Our culture is quite different and there are some things that we have to put into consideration, and we fill this has to be respected as we stay with families who are not familiar with smoking and drugs. Smoking cigarettes in public not allow in Uganda. Ladies should avoid wearing clothes that are transparent.
We have a community which is so much welcoming, I don't think whether any Volunteer will leave without not being contented and happy. We welcome volunteers from all around the world regardless of tribe, culture or religion
We are looking for volunteers from abroad who can help in the community of Kasanje and Entebbe.
We would like to have volunteers that are patient, flexible, friendly and outgoing. It is a bonus to have knowledge in community work, organic farming, permaculture and sustainable farming, education, or health. They must be ready to learn and adapt to our culture and have empathy. They should also be willing to have time to play and socialise with children.
Each volunteer has a different background, intrests and set of skill. The organisation is currently implementing projects about economic empowerment of children, youth and women, sustainable farming, health including HIV/AIDS prevention, and education in the community of Kasanje subcounty; so every volunteer is sure to have something to do that they like. We design volunteering programs so that they are all customised according to our needs and the volunteers's preferences.
Volunteers are welcome for any periods of time, whether on the short or long term. Volunteering programs will be tailored accordingly so that you can reach your objectives and ensure that you can contribute to the best of your capacity.
Currently, we are particularly interested in volunteers who want to work in:
1.Education. The volunteers will have a chance of teaching young children in our school. The activities with the children include teaching reading English, playing sports like football, school gardening and spending time with the vulnerable children in primary and nursery school. Since we do not have a children's home, the volunteers will help the organisation in supporting the vulnerable children in communities too. We often set up new activities like poetry day or music events. Most importantly, you can also give any new ideas about good activities for the children. The organisation is willing to support and help you to make your ideas come true and help the children.
2.Community sensitization: Take part in our activities around behavior change communication, HIV/AIDS prevention, nutrition, hygiene or education. We are always looking for people who can teach and sensitize the community members especially the fisher men.
3. Management: Help us in designing and implementing some of our projects. You can also assist in making work plans, reporting, designing of our website page, updating of our Facebook page, opening up other social media platforms, mobilising for funds to construct classrooms, advocacy etc
4. Bark Yard Sustainable Agriculture; Help the organisation to set up standard agriculture demonstration sites at our School site which will be used as demonstration sites during training. They will be used to train about promoting small-scale irrigation farming and organic farming. We shall be using plastic containers to come up with vegetable gardens. Your ideas are more that welcome. We are looking for volunteers to promote using of small areas of land for organic farming among the women and youth groups in the communities.
5. When we get funds to construct a better school structure, volunteers with expertise in carpentry, building and painting are also very much welcome. We believe that every volunteer comes with new ideas and can provide a great input to our organisation. Please feel free to make any suggestions.
For those who maybe interested to support a child or else support the school through Networking and Fundraising are much more welcome too.

Part 2: Wildlife Adventure
Volunteers can also have time off their usual schedule by having time to adventure Uganda in different National Game Parks and Cultural sites. However, this will come with a cost and payment from the volunteer only if they wish to;
A volunteer can end their stay in Uganda by having a 2 day wild-life safari or more days to spectacular Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elisabeth National game park and many more as one may wish. Also to note are the different cultural sites.
We’ll spend a day traveling to the national park as we reflect upon lessons learned from our cultural experience and embracing nature
Our game drive and boat ride offer stunning views and amazing photo ops of the (Big 5) lions, giraffes, elephants, baboons, crocodiles, and hippos – in their natural habitat.
The tour gives back 50% in supporting the needy children and their communities. So please plan on touring with us.
