A bit about us - we're a young team running an ethical alternative farm in a really beautiful part of Tasmania.
We work hard and play hard! Eating good food is a big part of what we do-we often have restaurant quality food prepared by using fresh produce from the farm and garden and from other artisan producers in Tasmania.
The farm is 9km from the cute seaside village of Penguin in Tassie's north-west, and it's right next to a mountain range that's great for bushwalking and mountain biking. We're just over 1.5 hours away from Cradle Mountain. Technically, if our free range pigs escaped they could walk all the way to Cradle and only have to cross one road!
We're doing things a bit different to conventional farmers: we keep old-fashioned breeds that are at risk of extinction and we look after the whole process from paddock to plate. We also have beautiful edible gardens, a wild permaculture garden and a french style raised bed pottage garden. We have two pet dogs Cyril and Winston that are part of the family, a cat puss puss and many pet farm animals including a bull Freya and a sheep called Zola and a big flock of free range chickens and ducks which we collect eggs daily. Their are lots of pictures on what we do on our facebook and instagram pages. The farm is also a really creative place, we encourage creativity through new projects, such as garden features, alternative buildings, paintings, games etc
We're passionate about the environment, animal welfare, preserving rare breeds of livestock, and teaching people about food production and learning agrarian skills. We're after some helpers that can fit in with our little community at the farm.
We're seeking assistance with our gardens, planting seeds, weeding, mulching and harvesting.
Helping to prepare meals for our team by using fresh produce from the garden and farm
Looking after our pets, taking the dogs for walks, collecting the eggs feeding the petting animals.
Composting and building garden features
Also with general house cleaning and maintenance.
We also offer helpers with creative skills the opportunity to be an artist in residence and draw or paint or work on other art projects
The accommodation's rustic but comfortable - you have access to a room in the house or the privacy of one of our retro caravans or in summer in busier months a space in our old school bus. We eat well and drink well - good wholesome meat from the farm, veggies from the garden and market, and tasty cheeses, cakes, and wines bartered with our friends. We have wi-fi and also enjoy watching movies after dinner to relax.
The help's varied, no day will be the same for you, we can tailor your work to suit your interest and skills.
We have fun days off together when we go bushwalking to say Cradle Mountain, op-shopping, coffee-drinking, and sometimes we even have a night out playing pool!
We also have a helper car for exploring Tasmania on your days off-if we trust you and your driving skills!
To get to the farm catch the spirit (boat) from Melbourne to Devonport, or fly into Launceston and catch a bus to Penguin.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Previous experiences have shown a range of benefits, largely due to the variable nature of tasks. Travellers have improved their cooking skills and gardening capabilities and have learnt about the local community. They also get an appreciation of what is involved in looking after animals. Most helpers come away with greater leadership skills and personal growth and improved levels of english. We have had many helpers also participate in local sporting clubs.
We're seeking assistance with our communal gardens, planting seeds, saving seeds, weeding, mulching and harvesting.

Accommodation is either in the farm house with the host, or if in summer one of the caravans or the school bus.
We provide a car for days off and road trips around Tasmania. We're also located to a nature reserve where there are plenty of bush walks. Previous helpers have become part of local sporting clubs and have enjoyed time op shopping or at the local pub playing pool.
