We are ocean lovers and eco warriors! After sacrificing our whole life in the city, we decided to trade our suits and tie for boardshorts and flip flop life. We just bought a dive centre in Tioman Island. We have unlimited imagination unfortunately with limited resources.
We would like to represent the voices of the sea, making effort in securing a future for our living seas and to save our threatened marine life before it is lost forever. Our mission is to share the wonders of the ocean to inspire conservation, education, research and sea ethic. There’s only one Ocean, and we have only one chance to save and conserve it.
The dive centre is located at Juara Beach (east side of Tioman Island). Our beach front dive centre has a beautiful beach and a sea of beautiful corals, fishes, reef sharks, turtles, ray and other reef fish. Our backyard is made up of the beautiful waterfall and mountainous jungle filled with exotic flora and fauna. It is home to mouse deers, porcupines, monkeys, squirrels, snakes, flying fox, terrapins, sea eagles, slow loris and who knows what other mysterious creatures lurks within.
There is still a lot to do, and a great variety of tasks for you to get involved in. We are eager to get as much help as we can to realize our dream. We prefer volunteers who can stay long terms, MINIMUM 3 WEEKS.
In your free time, if the equipment are available you can do shore dive for MYR 20 (~ US$ 5/EURO 5) or you can also do a boat dive for MYR 60 (~US 14/EURO 14). Our house reef (shore dive) is stunning for divers to enjoy the beauty of coral reef in Juara and the resident of underwater life such as turtles, cuttlefish, blue spotted stingrays, barracuda, school of fusiliers, black tip reef shark and many more.
You are not allowed to dive on your own and only certified diver allowed to dive, proof of certification is needed. If you are not a certified diver, don’t worry we can train you to be one at a discounted price. Or if we feel that you are a worthy asset to our family we will provide it for free (term and condition applies) Do not feel shy to ask ;)
Besides, you can go hiking, trail running, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, or just snooze your time away by the beach ;)
Fresh mountain water is piped from the waterfall straight into our dive centre.
Fresh ingredients, canned and dry food, and most basic needs can be bought in the sundry goods shop in the village. You can also jump on a 4x4 taxi (20 minutes) or jungle walk (2 hours) to go to the main part of the Island (Tekek Village) to withdraw money, government health clinic and groceries.
We will be providing a 3 basic meals (MOSTLY RICE) to volunteer a day only during working days. There are many local restaurant around where you can dine in for about US$2 per meal. If you decided to buy your groceries you are welcome to use our kitchen, just make sure everything is tidy up after you cook. Please take note.
Our place is equipped with basic internet access enough to send mail and surf youtube.
Updates October 2019* We just got the approval from the authority to set up our underwater coral nursery for coral restoration program.

You get the opportunity to learn more about scuba diving, coral restoration program, experience Malaysian village lifestyle and exchange travel & life story among volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers to help us out in our day to day dive centre operation, mostly logistic wise on scuba tanks. It's a heavy lifting job. So if you are not up to the challenge, please reconsider us.
There will be some carpentry, masonry, painting, cleaning, gardening, recycling, conservation projects and general maintenance.
We are also looking for someone who is good in social media marketing, blogging and poster design to help us out in our online marketing. Its a bonus if you own an underwater camera.
For underwater help, we are looking for certified divers as volunteers or someone who are keen to take underwater license with us (at discounted price) in order to help out with the program (20% of the work gonna be underwater).
You must be able to work independently, without supervision. We appreciate creativity and new ideas.
In exchange for your help, we provide a place to stay in by the beach front. So, we'd like you to contribute minimum 4 hours of help a day. If you are not prepared for that, please don't come. We are not interested to host volunteers who refuse to work hard.
We have a second-floor open dormitory area to be shared among volunteers. Each volunteer will be provided with a basic bedding such as THIN mattress on the floor, a pillow, a blanket and mosquito net. The dormitory has a magnificent sea view. It does get chilly at night with the cool sea breeze blowing down so if you get cold easily, you should bring a jacket, thin blanket or sleeping bag. Bring your own hammocks if you prefer to sleep under the stars (the stars lit sky is amazing on a clear night).
1. There is a government health clinic in Tekek village should anyone needs minor medical attention (20 minutes taxi). NO DOCTOR. only a medical assistant.
2. Please bring a pair of shoes suitable for work. Lots of sharp pebbles, thorny plants on the grounds. There's a Mr.DiY shop in Mersing town where you can buy a pair of rubber shoes (fondly referred to as Adidas kampung) for less than rm10.
3. Your own snacks or food that you like.
4. Managing expectations. THE PLACE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE. Please bring a positive, flexible, can-do attitude here. It is a remote location in a 3rd world country, and things do go wrong. If you cannot accept these conditions, this place is not for you. If you love nature, you will like it here and won't mind roughing it out. It is OK to leave if you don't like it here.
Please LEAVE immediately. Don't stay and infect others with your negativity
We strongly STRESS that we will remove volunteers who don't work, cause trouble or bring negative vibes.

From Kuala Lumpur you take a bus from TBS bus terminal to Mersing, usually 6 to 7 hours ride. I recommend the night bus, so you arrive in mersing around 5am.
From Singapore, there's a direct bus to mersing early in the morning. Or, you get across to Malaysia to Johor Baru bus terminal to catch the bus to mersing that departs every hour.
From mersing bus station, It's a short 15 minute walk to the jetty where you buy your ferry ticket rm100 return fare (RM50 one way) to tioman island. There is also a marine park fee to pay for all foreigners which is rm50, (Rm35 tioman marine park fee and rm15 johor national park fee)
Tell the ferry people you want to get off at kampung Tekek. This is main town in the Island. The ferry ride is about 80 minutes.
On Tekek jetty, we charge RM30 ONE WAY for a 4x4 taxi transfer to our place. Or if you wanna save money you can hike for 2 hours enjoying the nature.
