    Description

We are a self-managed community of people and animals that has always been centered around spontaneous hospitality of friends and travelers. Located at 800 metres of altitude in the woods of the beautiful Acquacheta Valley, in the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, we strive for a self-sufficient and sustainable life, inspired by the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture and our respect of all living beings.

We are two groups of adults and small children who live in two 19th century stone houses that are about 15 minutes walk away from each other, and share these ideas and lifestyle and work together as needed.

LIVING IN Casa delle Streghe now: Francesca (38) Aradia (2) Pado (34) Buldro (33) Nicola (32)...

LIVING IN Trafossi now: Margherita (27) Trem (26) Florens (almost 3) Finn (1)...

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

By visiting us we will learn together about communal living, cooperation and self-sufficiency from a place that has a 40+ year history of spontaneous hospitality and organic farming, plus of course the various jobs detailed in the "help required" section.

    Help

If you decide to visit us you could be involved in a wide range of daily activities such as: handicraft and maintenance/building of houses and fences; taking care of farm animals and with them in the stables, fields and woods; cooking and processing/preseverving the food we produce (including cheesemaking, bread and pizza making with sourdough, canning and fermenting); identifying and picking wild herbs to prepare food, herbal teas and distillates, as well as other phytoterapic and spagyric remedies; gardening and agricultural activities like hoeing, weeding, harvesting, seed reproduction/preservation/sowing and manual haymaking with scythes.

All of our tasks are seasonal and is assigned daily or weekly as a group decision so we can't say for sure which combination of these activities you will be involved with, but once we are in contact we will be able to give you more information based on the time of your visit.

Since we raise our children with a homeschooling/libertarian/Montessori approach, they partecipate actively in our daily life and work, and although it is by no means a requirement we would love to host people who share these interests.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be accomodated in one of the two houses, Trafossi and Casa delle Streghe.

Depending on the time of the year and weather we can accomodate guests in rooms, dormitories and tent space outside.

Food is central to our lives, and every day we spend time growing, preparing and cooking it in light of self-sufficiency, so you will definetely share meals and may help prepare them.

    IMPORTANT:

We are reachable only by means of a foot path (an actual mountain path) which takes about 1 hour to complete (there is a gated dirt road used only by park rangers and residents which requires a key and an offroad vehicle that is 10 and 30 mins walk away from the houses). If weather conditions are too bad to walk, we will pick you up by car.

We have limited showering facilities and no toilet facilities (we go outside, we would like a to build a compost toilet but haven't done so yet).

    What else ...

As we are located in a world-famous National Park there are many trekking routes that cross the area. There is also a beautiful river with waterfalls that is 15 minutes away walking distance. We are reachable by bus from Forlì and Firenze to San Benedetto in Alpe (closest village), plus 1 hour walking on the Nature Trail. Bus lines are active every day (summer schedule - until september).
