Are you fun, friendly and capable of working well in a team?

We are a French-style bistro restaurant and bar based in the town of Burgh-Haamstede, Zeeland. Our team is led by owner and head chef Stef, and Tamas who manages the front of house. Our guests are often vacationers, but also local people of course. There is a cozy and informal ethos in our restaurant.

Currently we are looking for team members for the front of house. If you’re looking for a place by the sea to call home for at least a month, keep reading!

Each of us cares deeply about the restaurant and enjoy seeing its success after all the hard work we put in. Our dedication to the business also extends to all the members of our team including workawayers, and we do everything in our power to ensure you feel welcome and included. There are many opportunities to meet people from different corners of the world, whether they are customers or fellow workawayers staying with you. This offers the chance for you to learn more about different cultures and traditions in a first-hand manner.

Our team wants to provide a wonderful experience for the people that will work with us. We will be eating with everyone together as a team, share stories, let you try our good food, try to teach you some Dutch, teach you restaurant skills that you will be able to use forever, and have a drink (or two :-)) after work.

We want to learn from other cultures, and love to see how every country has something wonderful to offer. We love to eat amazing food from abroad, share recipes, and like to meet new people. We always want to create a win-win situation, where we help out other people, by offering the ability to generate money, and give them an experience where they can discover new areas and make new friends.

You'll sleep above the restaurant and you get tips and an hourly wage. The restaurant and sleeping arrangements are close to the beach (400 m walk) and forest (250m walk) and nearby 2 bigger city's + bus stops + a supermarket. In the bigger cities you can have drinks/party or be around other traveling people.

We are primarily looking for a (sous-)chef with experience in a professional kitchen, as well as kitchen help.

We are interested in expanding our front-of-house team with experienced waiters and waitresses.

    (sous-)Chef position:

As a sous chef you will be expected to work alongside Stef in the kitchen preparing our selection of starters, mains, side dishes and desserts. Attention to detail will be necessary when reading tickets that contain dietary restrictions, as well as during preparation of dishes ensuring they look well-presented. Prioritising and multitasking is essential when it comes to organising which dishes will need to be finished before others. During busy moments it is important to communicate well with other kitchen members so that everyone is on the right page. And of course you are working in a team, so teamwork skills are a must!

    Kitchen help position:

If you have an interest in food and are looking to learn new skills, starting in the position of kitchen help would be a great opportunity. Under the guidance of Stef, you will learn how to prepare our more basic dishes before learning to recognise and prepare dishes independently. If you have a persistent attitude you will flourish in this role!
As kitchen help you will also be responsible for ensuring the kitchen remains a tidy workspace, so if you are already a tidy person this will come naturally to you.

    Waiter/waitress position:

During the summer when many tourists visit, we are in need of people capable of working quickly and efficiently. This is why we are only looking for workawayers who already have experience working as a server.

If you are joining our front-of-house team, you can expect to complete many different types of tasks in one evening. You will welcome guests as they arrive and make them feel welcomed throughout the rest of the evening through a warm and sociable attitude. We consider communication to be the key to succeeding in what we do. Whether it is clearly explaining our menu to guests or keeping the team informed on orders, it's important that you know what it takes to work in a team.

In the first week, you will be expected to learn how to carry three plates of food, how to bring and serve to a table a full tray of drinks and how to correctly open a bottle of wine at the table. Furthermore, you will gradually learn all about our beer and wine selection so that even if you do not have any prior knowledge, you will feel confident in making suggestions for our guests. Front-of-house manager Tamas will also let you know the details of our menu so that by the time you learn to take food orders, you will be able to assist guests in making their choices.

We are interested in workawayers who are fluent in either English or Dutch. As many of our guests are tourists, knowledge of German and French are also an advantage.

    Wage:
You can expect to receive a form of payment as well as tips.
Minimum wage of holland, at 21 years the minimum wage is about 14 euros hourly and you’ll be paid for every hour you’ve worked.

We don’t hire people under the age of 21.

You will be living in accommodation above the bistro with other Workawayers, and have your own private room. The bistro is situated in the small town of Burgh-Haamstede, which has bus connections to surrounding cities such as Middleburg, the capital of Zeeland. From there, it’s possible to take the train to Rotterdam. In your free time be sure to check out Renesse and Goes which are both easily accessible by bus. If you’re stuck for ideas, you can always ask us!

For nature lovers, you’ll love to know that we are only a 7 minute walk from the beach and 6 minutes from the forest. Even after your shift it is possible to take a short walk and relax in an entirely different setting. The nearest supermarket is just across the road and has plenty of essentials plus fresh coffee and pastries. A larger supermarket is a half an hour walk away or around 15 minutes if you take the bus.

There are private bedrooms (for 1 or 2) as well as a bathroom (with a shower and bath) that is shared as well as the kitchen, which has a fridge for workawayers. Separate from the bathroom there are two toilets. There is also a living room for you to relax and eat together. Wi-fi is available across all the rooms.
