Restaurant, a bistro and bar that's open in the evening. Our guests are often vacationers, but also local people of course. There is a cozy and informal ethos in our restaurant.
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Our team wants to provide a wonderful experience for the people that will work with us. We will be eating with everyone together as a team, share stories, let you try our good food, try to teach you some dutch, teach you restaurant skills that you will be able to use forever, and have a drink (or two :-)) after work. We have bikes to use for free, so you can explore the area around.
We want to learn from other cultures, and love to see how every country has something wonderful to offer. We love to eat amazing food from abroad, share recipes, and like to meet new people. We always want to create a win-win situation, where we help out other people, by offering the ability to generate money, and give them an experience where they can discover new areas and make new friends.
You'll sleep above the restaurant and you get part of the tips and a proper hourly wage. The restaurant and sleeping arrangements are close to the beach (400 m walk) and forest (250m walk) and nearby 2 bigger city's + bus stops + a supermarket. In the bigger city's you can have drinks/party or be around other traveling people. The center of the city our restaurant is in, is more local.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Host has indicated that they will pay at least the minimum hourly wage of their country for each hour worked and that accommodation will also be provided. They are asking for help with a business or business activity. Contact the host directly via the site messenger for more information and details about the wage provided. Any arrangements should be agreed in advance with your host.
Chef with experience wanted for bistro restaurant in South of Netherlands
Are you fun, friendly and capable of working well in a team?
We are an independent restaurant and bar (and a beer garden!) based in the town of Burgh-Haamstede, Zeeland. Our team is composed of Stef, the owner and head chef, Immen, and Tamas.
Currently we are looking for new team members for both the kitchen and front of house. If you’re looking for a place by the sea to call home for at least a month, keep reading!
ABOUT THE RESTAURANT
Our team has been running the restaurant for 4 years and are delighted to finally be reopening with a restricted service amidst COVID regulations.
All workawayers will have their own bedroom above the restaurant where Tamas and his girlfriend Emily live. The bistro is situated in the small town of Burgh-Haamstede, which has bus connections to surrounding cities such as Middleburg, the capital of Zeeland. From there, it’s possible to take the train to Rotterdam. In your free time be sure to check out Renesse and Goes which are both easily accessible by bus.
For nature lovers, you’ll love to know that we are only a 7 minute walk from the beach and 6 minutes from the forest. Even after your shift it is possible to take a short walk and relax in an entirely different setting.
The nearest supermarket is just across the road and has plenty of essentials plus fresh coffee and pastries. A larger supermarket is a half an hour walk away or around 15 minutes if you take the bus.
ABOUT THE JOB
We are primarily looking for experienced staff to join Stef in the kitchen. During the summer when many tourists visit the area, we are in need of someone capable of working quickly and efficiently. This is why we are in need of someone who already has experience working as a chef. Of course, we also hope to be joined by a fun person filled with enthusiasm, as this is a highly valued trait when working as part of a team.
We are interested in people who are fluent in either English or Dutch and who preferably are
willing to stay for at least 6 months. A good monthly salary plus tips is being offered.
There are also positions open to work in the front of house with Tamas. Although we prefer people with table service experience, it is not necessary and we are happy to take on students looking for a summer job. Like our chef opening, you can expect to receive a form of payment as well as tips.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Each of us cares deeply about the restaurant and enjoy seeing its success after all the hard work we put in. Our dedication to the business also extends to all the members of our team including workawayers, and we do everything in our power to ensure you feel welcome and included. There are many opportunities to meet people from different corners of the world, whether they are customers or fellow workawayers staying with you. This offers the chance for you to learn more about different cultures and traditions in a first-hand manner.
We are looking for a sous-chef to assist in the kitchen, as well as service members whose tasks range from cleaning the restaurant before opening hours to greeting and waiting on our customers, all the way through to polishing wine glasses at the end of the evening.
You will be living in Tamas and Emily’s house above the restaurant, and have your own private room. The bathroom (with a shower and bath) is shared as well as the kitchen, which has a fridge for workawayers to share. There is also a living room especially for the workawayers to relax and eat together. Wi-fi is available across all the rooms.
What else …
With the forest and beach in one direction and easily accessible cities in another, it’s easy for everyone to find something they can enjoy in their free time. If you’re stuck for ideas, you can always ask us :)
