    Description

This project is located in San Cristobal de las Casas Chiapas, where we are working in the initial phase of developing an eco-village that includes non-till farming, ecological education and an agroforestry project.

This is a large property with an amazing biological diversity where volunteers can find pines, oaks, cypresses and dozens of species of native trees and plants, it also offers different micro climates and is surrounded by Mayan communities. The City is 45 minutes away and there is public transportation -is a rural area and in some parts the road is not the best but that is part of the experience-.

Folks interested in helping in this project will learn the key principles of agroecology, no-till farming, composting, bio intensive growing,, permaculture, seeds saving and natural building, if you have experience in those fields we would love to learn from you as well!. NOTE: At this point we are interested only in volunteers who are able to commit to help for at least a month. We have space for 6-8 volunteers at a time.

    About me:
I used to live for many years in the USA, my work includes organizing international conferences, focused in practical solutions to climate change. In the past I organized conferences involving non-GMO advocacy, and immigrant rights. I used to host radio programs in a commercial radio station in Northern California, educating about environmental issues, healthy lifestyle and social movements. My first language is Spanish.

Last year I completed the Earthship Academy in Taos New Mexico and the in the past I took a permaculture design certification, seeds academy, growing bio-intensive and non-till workshops, among others. I used to facilitate classes on urban farming for few years.

Friends from the USA and from San Cristobal de las Casas are supporting this project in different ways.

If you are interested we look for folks that are committed in alternative living,, open communication and good sense of humor -that would be a plus-. We are creating a healthy environment great for non smokers/drug users and free of drama. We eat well, sleep well and maintain regular hours of work starting sharing a healthy breakfast at 8:30 AM.
There is plenty of space where volunteers can create their own world and routine after their shifts.

The difference between this project and others that are already established, is that here you can learn everything from the beginning.

We encourage people from all ages, colors and backgrounds to apply!

The City of San Cristobal de las casas in Chiapas is considered the most magical small town in Mexico, after the zapatista up-rising, some areas of the state became an example of rebelion, self-determination and autonomy, since then, many folks form other parts of the world came here and started alternative projects. This could be considered the safest state of Mexico -that is the 6th most visited country in the world-, the local population speaks Tzotzil, they are kind and friendly, there are always opportunities to learn and practice Spanish and the city life is always vibrant, with so many things going on, we would like to set up an activites calendar that allows volunteers to enjoy the city and nearby attractions.

    Help

We need help improving the quality of the soil, that means building compost starting plants in green houses, transplanting, taking care of crops and chicken -we are considering buying sheep-, , helping with bio-construction projects and coordinating cooking shifts and other activities related to the educational project.
NOTE: At this point we are interested only in volunteers who are able to commit to help for at least a month. We have space for 6-8 volunteers at a time.

    Accommodation

We have comfortable mattresses in cabins. Some volunteers like to camp and there is plenty of space for that as well.

We will provide all volunteers with basic food (grains, greens, water, eggs) for three meals a day. They will be responsible for the preparation of their meals.

During the rainy season (May-October), some areas are muddy and wet. If you are planning to join us please come prepared with the right clothes and shoes for periods of rain and heat.
