Description
Where? The sea, the eternal summer, a deserted beach, whales showing off, palm trees, a quiet fishing village: Puerto Cayo is breathtaking with its scenery of mountains and endless sandy beaches. Our little paradise, located 350 meters from the Pacific Ocean, overlooks all of this in a spectacular view and has a lot to offer in exchange for your work.
Who? We are Fernand and Frédérique, a couple of retired Canadians. We had a wonderful dog, Wilkie. You’ll hear of her in the comments. We have a property which includes our house, a guesthouse, a vegetable garden and a garden of beautiful trees and flowers. We speak French, English and Spanish, we like to meet people, and we love travelers’ openness. Epicureans and foodies, we look forward to inviting you to our table to share a good meal and get to know you. Our philosophy? To have enthusiastic volunteers, you have to make them happy. We are flexible on schedule and LGBTQ+ friendly.
What? We need help from TWO VOLUNTEERS at the same time mainly for simple general maintenance and sometimes also artistic and special projects. Let us know about your specific skills, and what you like to do, it may inspire us! In exchange, we offer a lovely house with fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, hot water, comfortable queen-sized bed and large private palapa (covered terrace) with table, pizza oven and hammocks, all in a lush garden. You’ll also be spoiled with little treats.Types of help and learning opportunities

We moved in Puerto Cayo in 2014 so we know quite a bit about Ecuador and its culture. As everybody is different, we will be happy to answer any question you have and help you to have a wonderful stay by trying to find the best activities/discoveries just for you.
Help
General maintenance is the essential of the help and we are looking for two volunteers at the time. You may have to help our gardener, to clean windows, help us to cook a harvest of fruits or vegetables for our personal consumption, to paint a mural if you have artistic talents, to sand and varnish garden furniture, house cleaning... Fernand is a fantastic handyman and may ask your help in any of his projects, I am a photographer and seamstress and I may need help in both of my passions.

A fully equipped little house just for you with its privacy and covered terrace where you can rest in an hammock.
A food truck comes twice a week at home with fruits, vegetables, peanut butter, cheese, eggs, and also comes a drinking water truck to deliver 18 liters bottles for 1$ (USD) and a nice man who sales fresh shrimp. You can find a little grocery in the village with most of the things you will need. Fishermen are coming back to shore early in the morning and may have fish for sale. Also, you can come with us to a grocery store if you need it or just leave us a list of things you want. Every time we’ll go shopping, we will ask you if you need something.
Mototaxis to go around the village and buses service for anywhere else are efficient. In the village, you will also find doctors, drugstores, a gym, surf lessons, general and fruits & vegetables tiendas, also restaurants for all budgets. What else ...
It takes 20 minutes to walk to the center of Puerto Cayo, where you can find restaurants, and even if the village is usually quiet, sometimes we enjoy a big event with concerts and fireworks. Around Puerto, you find Puerto Lopez and its new border walk with hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops and a great beach (30 minutes by bus), from where you can go by boat to Isla de la Plata, which is a little Galapagos with its flora and fauna. Further (2 hours), you have Montañita, a lovely babacool place that attracts lots of people, especially surfers. On the other side: the big city of Manta (one hour) with its huge shopping mall, beaches, great restaurants, hospitals and more. Closer (20 minutes), you must go to Agua Blanca (mud bath, massage) and Los Frailes beach, the most beautiful beach of Ecuador. Finally and not the least, whales are coming close from end of June to end of September. We have a wonderful spot to observe them!
Just tell us what you are looking for as travelers, we may have an answer!A little more information
