    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into a country that was until recently still behind the iron curtain. Plenty of evidence of this still exists everywhere you look. Many of the old ways of living day to day in these mountain villages still goes on, such as growing your own fruit and vegetables, tending livestock and living off the land. Horse and carts are still a day to day sight as is small flocks of sheep and goats being led out to pasture as they would have done for hundreds of years. For anyone interested enough to take the time to explore, the near by city of Veliko Tarnovo which was once the medieval capital of the country has much to offer both old and new. Closer to home the traveller will learn a variety of skills and techniques to do with conservation and repair of old timber buildings as well as approaches to horticulture/arboriculture and green living.
