Our Community was born in 1975 when a group of young friends including my father and uncle got together and bought this land of native bush to start a community of like minded people, in that first period they built the communal house we call the A-frame, But as the people had different ideas and focus in there lives they mostly left the Island. I have lived on this land off and on since I was a baby and got more involved in the last years planting big organic gardens.. ect, My partner and I love this special place tucked away in the forest, we have recently started to build our dream home, a labour of love and so rewarding! we invite you to be a part of our project!

Help with Eco Projects
Living close to nature, low impact, sustainable lifestyle, Eco building, living off the Grid in remote areas.
We are in the finishing stages of a new and exciting alternative, eco building project, we are building our dream home out of mud brick, milled timber from the island and other recycled materials. Post and beam structure, passive solar design with green roof's and off grid systems. We are both hard working and looking for someone interested in natural building! We are currently working on the interior and preferably looking for people with experience to help with plaster boarding, electrical or plumbing.

You'll be staying in the A-frame, located in the bush about 100m up the hill from us, it is simply equipped with a gas stove for cooking, and you will be supplied with fresh veggies from the gardens, homemade bread, eggs from the chooks and other basic dry ingredients to cook with. We will have lunches together and shared dinner occasionally , as our living space is very small. There is cold running water coming down from the spring near by, an outdoor fire bath, outdoor toilet, and the necessary basics, but has no phone or internet. Suited for people who enjoy being in nature and happy in there own company.
We are Situated in a beautiful dense native forest with sea views, located 10 minutes bush walk from the road, just out of Tryphena on Great Barrier Island, a remote Island 90km off the coast Auckland
There are many stunning hikes around the island with DOC huts and camp grounds to stay the night on the longer ones, countless beautiful beaches and the natural hot springs in the bush are a must! Great Barrier Island is also renown as an international dark sky sanctuary. Hitch hiking is a great way to travel on the island and meet some colourful locals. There is a lovely little private beach only 30min walk away. We also have a couple of push bikes, there is a kayak, snorkelling and fishing gear available too.
