    Description

This is a non-profit empowering students in several partner schools with life skills and fundamental entrepreneurship skills to improve their livelihoods. We influence them to focus on innovation instead of just earning certificates from schools to look for jobs.

We work with all education stakeholders to inspire the creation of student-led enterprises right from the grass-root. We work with the community, education institutions, teachers and learners.

Please message us if you are interested in working with us.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A 3 bedroom house with access to water and electricity. We are still doing some improvements to the place with some house finishing works still ongoing.

Our address is close to the main road. Workawayers will be provided with a private room with a bunker bed in the same house as the hosts in Nkoowe (Wakiso), on the outskirts of the capital city, Kampala.

Meals are shared with the host and include a mix of local and foreign dishes. We also look forward to tasting and learning how to cook some of your favourite traditional dishes.

Workawayers are advised to carry a power Bank where possible as we sometimes experience power outages that can last as long as 24 hours. We do have solar but unfortunately that's only enough for lighting.

For a better internet experience, we advise that you buy your own SIM card. We may offer some internet even that is capped at 10 MBps max speed.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are plenty of hangout spots and community cultural events for volunteers to relax during their time off including the big five, bird watching, Chimpanzee and gorilla trekking, or simply hanging out in Kampala or the neighbouring areas, depending on your budget. Uganda is home to the Source of the Nile in Jinja, several beaches, mountains and national parks. We will assist you in organising an affordable safari.

Transport around Kampala is mainly by 14-seater "taxis". From the airport, we advise that you make arrangements for us to pick you up. It's about 2 hours drive from the airport during rush hours and maybe less during the less busy hours of the day.

    VISA INFORMATION
Most visitors to Uganda need to obtain a visa including Europeans, Americans and nationals from Commonwealth countries such as New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

Volunteers are advised to obtain a tourist visa to enter Uganda.
Applications can be filled out online (the cost is $100). Where visitors seek to stay longer than the period granted on arrival, an extension of the period should be sought from the Immigration Headquarters in Kampala before the expiry of the initial visitor’s pass.

For further information regarding visas, please contact the relevant authorities in your country before travelling.

    Passport:
You need a valid passport, one that is expiring at least 6 months from the date you enter Uganda.

    Sufficient Funds:
No amount is currently specified by immigration, but having a Credit Card is good enough evidence to convince the immigration officer that you have enough money with you.
The cost of living is generally friendly so you do not need a huge budget unless you plan to do some tourism activities, especially gorilla trekking and visiting the national parks.

    Immunisation and tests:
You are required to present a YELLOW FEVER vaccination certificate, proof of COVID-19 immunization and/or negative PCR covid-19 results upon arrival along with proof of yellow fever vaccination (please check the latest information and guidelines before arrival).

    Sim cards:
You can get a sim card from any of the local service providers, usually MTN or Airtel for approximately $1.5. Simply present your passport to be able to complete the process. You need to buy a data bundle. Airtel network bundles are usually cheaper (22 GB costs about $15).

    Language:
The main languages spoken here are English and Luganda.
