Description
**Looking for someone **
Hello. I'm Dean, and I have created this profile with help from my friend, Andy, as since I had a stroke three years ago, I can no longer type or use a computer.
I used to be very active, and worked renovating houses and apartments, but now, sadly, I no longer can do this kind of work. I can drive, walk short distances, and do simple jobs around the house, but not a great deal else, physically. I am looking for a Workaway volunteer to help with some basic jobs, mainly going to the shops to buy food, cooking meals and helping me clean my apartment and an apartment I have by the sea, which friends and family stay in. I DO NOT require any medical help or assistance with anything personal. The working hours would normally be less than three hours a day, sometimes much less, with a guaranteed two days a week off. As cooking meals is an important part of this Workaway, that time can sometimes be spread out through the day, but also, making a meal for me to preheat later is possible if you are going out. I sometimes spend a couple of days a week at a villa inland where my partner lives, and on those days you would be completely free. It is an easy Workaway, which would give volunteers plenty of free time, with not a lot of work, and would suit someone who works online, would like to be near the beach, or just wants their own space for a while.
I live in a two-bedroom apartment in Vera pueblo, about 10 minutes from the sea in the south of Spain. Close to the apartment, there are shops, restaurants, bars and a regular bus service to pretty much anywhere. Andy has a separate Workaway host profile, with his partner, Fleur, entitled 'Help us take care of a beautiful old farmhouse near the Mojácar coast in Andalusia, Spain', which is active and, happily, quite popular (do take a look).
This Workaway is sometimes accommodation only, but with some food provided if you are cooking for me at the same time. I can accommodate one or two Workawayers, but if there are two of you, you would be sharing a room and a bed, so it is best that you are good friends or a couple. (Or both...) To be honest, I would prefer single person, but a couple is possible. Please note, I am a smoker.
Initially, Andy will read and respond to messages, but he will set up a video call between you and me once he has chatted and we agree to move forwards. Andy says that (he is typing so I have no choice...) I am a lovely, happy, man, with a big heart, and he is hoping that some Workaway volunteers can make my life just a little bit more pleasant with a little bit of help around the place.
Sidenote... Andy works at a local dog shelter a few afternoons a week. If you would like to go there with him to walk some dogs, they would appreciate it. Dean will drive you there if he is free. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Honestly, the cultural exchange element of this workaway would depend on your desire to go out and meet people and do things. I am not going to give you much cultural excitement, but you can find plenty of it locally if you look for it. I am not going to teach you about farming or biodiversity, but I do have a lot of knowledge of building and decorating techniques which I can pass on, although my body no longer allows me to do much myself.

Help
I would like help with basic housework, food shopping and meal preparation, and help cleaning my apartment and the apartment my friends and family stay in. At the moment, cooking is a challenge for me, so I eat only very basic meals like toast or cereal or go to the restaurant around the corner for food. NO medical or personal help will be required at any time.

Accommodation
You would have a private, recently redecorated double room with a new bed and mattress and a private bathroom, in a two bedroom apartment. I can sometimes accommodate two workawayers, but you would have to be friends or partners, as there is only the one workaway room.

What else ...
Locally, there are beaches, towns. villages that can be reached via bus, and Vera town is a short walk away. Almeria, Alicante and Murcia are a longer bus ride away, and I am often available to drive short distances if you want to visit somewhere close. Two big supermarkets and a few bars and restaurants are a short walk away.

Space for parking camper vans
You can park a campervan on the street outside the apartment block, but you probably won't fit anything tall in the underground carpark.
-
Can possibly accept pets
One well behaved dog is possible, but do remember, this is an apartment, not a house with a garden.

From the first moment we met we hit it off. He is so easy to talk to and to be yourself with. I felt incredibly safe in his home and in his presence and we had a lot of laughs and fun together. I cannot wait to go back to the sweet town of Vera and spend more time hanging with Dean, driving around … read more
