    Description

We are a few young, enthusiastic and open minded individuals who are actively engaged in inbound tourism and hospitality trade in Sri Lanka.

We have a small coconut plantation bordering a beautiful lake and a farm land near by which we still have not utilized.

As a start we began to rebuild the accommodation for the volunteers to make their stay more comfortable. When we started the project this was an empty old house with 3 bedrooms and a kitchen in the coconut plantation. With the support of our volunteers we have completed most of the critical renovation work already and the accommodation is in good condition.

As of now we are building up a new cafe facing a lovely river closer to Anuradhapura town with a unique eco friendly concept. We want to keep the space open to the nature and fill the place with green plants. We have almost finished constructing the building and now we are more focused on making the cafe more pleasant by making handmade decorations and etc. Meantime we want to do branding and get other essential things organized when it comes to running the operation smoothly.

However we wish to start converting our farm lands in to organic farming and making it a profitable venture once the cafe is up and running. Until then this would be on hold.

Eventually we want to make this a sustainable project including proper accommodation, facilities and activities for volunteers and for the tourists who come to stay with us.

Since the Palmstead (accommodation) is located in a small village, we have now started teaching English to the village kids during the weekends as a social sustainability project. We believe that we can make a great impact on the youth and the local community via this program. If you have free time and would like to exchange some culture while enhancing the English language skills of the kids, you are most welcome to sign up for this program during your stay.

Even though the project is in the most ancient city of Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura we are located in a rural area and there are non-English speaking village families mostly so hardly expect tourist (unless you go to the town)

It is simply a paradise if you love nature, wildlife and village vibes. There are many paddy fields, rocks to climb and ancient cities filled with massive man-made lakes. There are Buddhist stupas which are older than 2000 years of time, and so many Buddhist temples and activities around. If you are interested in history, nature, wildlife, local culture and local food this would be a perfect opportunity for you.

Just to let you know that there are western restaurants and other tourist facilities available in the city( 10-12km away) case if you needed a break in-between your stay.

As of now we may need open minded individuals who are up for any work if you know what I mean.
There is so much to clean, paint, build, work in the garden, general house maintenance work and etc. If you are open and committed yet positive towards what comes by, you are the volunteer that we need!

There are a very limited opportunities available due to law capacity requirements for a few months due to cafe building operation. Hence the priority would be given to volunteers who suites the criteria.

    Accommodation

    Please have no exceeded expectations!

We have one recently renovated village type house in the coconut farm with 4 bedrooms and a kitchen. We have two nice washrooms with decent facilities attached to the house.

Accommodation still needs some brushing up to be done here and there. Anyhow we are looking at using volunteer help to renovate, upgrade and maintain the accommodation as a presentable place.

The house is yet to be fully furnished. Expect us to have some basic household items. We have two guitars and a few music instruments in case if you play or interested in learning music while you are here.

Comfortable bunk beds are provided with bedding for the each volunteer with a mosquito net. If you are a couple we could still provide you only bunk beds.

Apart from that we have a village type kitchen with basic supply such as a microwave, mini fridge, cooker, toaster and a rice cooker. Volunteers will be provided with 3 basic meals with the food supply provided by the management. Mainly simple vegetarian Sri Lankan meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner during your stay.

(Please note that we would not be able to facilitate your individual food preferences. In case if you want to prepare your own meal you are welcome to use the kitchen with your own food supply)

On and off if you like to experience some local foods on your own, there are some shops(with in 5kms ) so that you can experience the local authentic street foods like kotthu, hoppers/egg hoppers, pittu and string hoppers with coconut sambol.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are so many ancient sites, ancient Buddhist temples with massive pagodas, hundreds of ancient manmade lakes, national parks filled with wild life(specially elephants), rocks to climb, meditation programs, yoga and cookery classes to attend to.

Hiring a bicycles for a cheap amount could be arranged at the property. This would be the most convenient way of getting around here. If you walk to the main road(1.5km) there are many buses which connects with the central transportation system to go pretty much anywhere cheap. Also tutuks are available in the city areas.

There is a washing machine at the property.
If needed laundry service could be arranged at a small cost unless you hand wash.

Added benefit is that it's really easy to travel between main cities like Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, Sigiriya or further up north from Anuradhapura at it is the hub in the north central.

If you like this experience please feel free to drop us an e-mail with your details and let us know about your self.
