Are you a fan of nature and tranquility? Then you will love it here, and we would love your help! We are a Mexican/American couple, working on an ambitious nature sanctuary project, we are located on a beautiful
"Island" to one side we have the chacahua lagoon and to the other a 10mile beach. Even though this is supposed to be a protected area it has little or no help from the government and so a lot of it is being destroyed, we are hoping to make a difference by converting our piece of land into a food forest, sustainable camping site and turtle/animal sanctuary, by this we hope to influence our neighbors and in the long run save this beautiful place.

Chacahua is paradise, a small community lives on the "point" this is where most backpackers stay, you can find amazing waves for surfing, soccer n beach volleyball, nice beach and lagoon for swimming, as well as restaurants and a bar( most places close by 11/12pm) sometimes later 2/3am on Saturdays. The point is about an hour beach walk or a $1usd 15min shuttle away.
There's 2 other communities to visit and explore, and many other activities like hiking, bird watching, fishing etc. Turtles nest right in front of our property so that's awesome too. Depending on your motivation, you can have a lot of quiet self time, or your day can be filled exploring the surroundings and interacting with the locals.
At the moment we are starting with the bare minimums, most help needed is watering plants, yard work and helping with the building of the palapa hut, we start tomorrow! Yey.
At the moment we have a small tent and air mattress to offer, fine for one, a bit cramped for a couple. People with camping gear welcome. We also have hammocks, but working on an area to place them. Compost toilet n outdoor "shower" more like bucket/hose shower. We have a well, WiFi and generator for basic electricity, kitchen area with gas stove, small fridge and campfire. Our own private beach!
Food: we don't really eat at scheduled times, I do cook 2/3 meals a day and we normally have coffee/tea in the mornings, but times and meals vary a lot, I love cooking and will always offer my home cooking, but if you are particular about food or times, you are welcome to use the kitchen and the basics(spices, oil, rice, beans, etc) anytime.
The place is beautiful once you arrive, but it's a Bit of an adventure getting here. We are located an hour from Puerto Escondido, the closest large city, world class surf, night life and everything a top tourist destination needs is there, as well as international airport. Ways to get here:
Easy/expensive $32USD private taxi+shared boat+shuttle
Bit of hassle/cheapest $7.5usd shuttle+shared taxi+shared boat+shuttle
Once here you can reach the near by communities by walking, canoe, or
Dollar shuttle. Nearest town with ATM is Rio grande 30mins away.
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Max 5hrs/day 5days a week, some days could be full, some days could be just watering plants and feeding the chickens.
