    Description

The house project is in the centre of a traditional, working Greek village on the amazing island of Samothraki. You'll get chance to explore this very special place, sample the local cuisine and lead the Greek island life.

I'm needing willing people to help in all aspects of house restoration. There is some unskilled work and we'll be learning as we go and hopefully acquiring new skills from local craftsmen. Lots of dusty, hard work, but a chance to learn pointing and working with lime, painting, some gardening, all in the heart of the village.

The house is habitable, with your own room, a working kitchen and a proper bathroom, so there's a chance to clean up after a hard day. A couple where one of you can cook would also be welcome! The plan is to make one of the houses ready for letting and to live in the other, eventually. Anyone particularly skilled or committed could return year after year for a holiday once it's all finished. People have a very strong draw to return once they've visited this island :)

The village has a traditional greek restaurant and is very much a working, agricultural village, mainly focused on sheep, goats and olives. Mainly Greek speaking with a few people speaking English and keen to practice!

The sea is a 10 minute walk and many of the villagers fish from the shore or small boats, so it's a chance to see how people do this and possibly learn the techniques. It's a great chance to see how a small island functions, with about 2000 inhabitants.

Time off allows people to explore this small island, bicycles are provided and the roads pretty safe. The sea is 10 minutes walk from the house and walks are possible in all directions around the village and up the mountain. I'm also happy to drive people to further parts of the island and share some of the places of great interest - the ancient temple complex, the pretty town of Hora and the hot springs of Therma. There is also a bus service running every day from the village.
