We are a local family from a small village called San Juan de Chuccho located inside the beautiful Colca Canyon. My father takes care of our home. We have set up a small, local museum in the Colca Canyon close to where tourists trekking the canyon pass daily. The museum has local artifacts including dried food specimens, traditional garments, blankets and ceramics.
Help around the house
Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn the local history while working in the museum as well as experience the local farming lifestyle. My father does not speak english so volunteers will also have the opportunity to improve their spanish and Quechua! We require that our volunteers speak spanish at an advanced level.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
We are looking for volunteers to help run the small museum during the day (open and help to explain the artifacts to passing tourists) as well as help my father with daily chores on the farm.
Volunteers will have their own room in my familie's small adobe home where they will sleep on a bamboo bed.
Workaway volunteers will eat with my father who prepares several different foods made with quinoa, grains, fried trout, alpaca meat, avocado and fruits. Daily they will help prepare and eat breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Colca Canyon is the deepest in the world and is full of trail for hiking. The river passes close to where my familie's home is located and during certain times of the year it is possible to fish for trout. To get in and out of the canyon you must trek approximately 3-4 hours up/down the canyon wall or take a 4 hours car ride.
