We are getting some generic, copy/paste messages. Don't be that person ;)
 ***Update autumn 2025***
We could really do with some helping hands for harvesting and preserving! If you are into jam-making this is for you!
 ***************
We will give preference to people who can stay for longer periods (at least one month but preferably longer) as we like to really connect with people and integrate you into the house-community.
My Housemate Karin, her adult son and I live in an old Farmhouse with a big Garden. It's in a small village close to the french border nestled among forest and very close to Laufen from where you can easily catch a train to Basel or Bienne/Biel. Often Karin's other adult child comes to visit for the week-end and sometimes the house is full and bustling, other times it is quiet and cozy. Karin is a master knitter and will often be found listening to audiobooks and knitting amazing pieces in the living room. Or else looking after her beautiful flower patch in the garden. We are having a go at growing some vegetables but there is a truly massive amount of slugs around, so it’s a bit of a struggle.
We are a queer/LGBTQIA+ friendly place!

 - Cultural exchange and learning opportunities- We are happy to practice german with you if you are learning (and are very happy practicing our english). As we are crafty people we love to exchange these skills and learn new ones. Karin can teach you how to knit if you are interested and I could teach you how to carve wooden spoons or do linol print. There's also a small archery range that you can use. And I'm happy to do an introductory session with you if you like.
 - Projects involving children- This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
 - Help- This is the place for you if you are self-reliant and happy to entertain yourself when we’re not around - love walks in the forest - like garden work - don’t mind staying in an old, creaky house with a bit of organised chaos :) Massive bonus if you have gardening and/or carpentry skills!
The type of work you could be doing: gardening (weeding, harvesting, collecting slugs…), repair work in the house, cooking, cleaning, building, painting, and and and!
Please talk to us about your needs/requirements to make your stay possible or more enjoyable - we will do our best to make it work. We won't police your work hours and want everyone to work according to their abilities. Listen to your body/mind and take as many breaks as you need!

 - Accommodation- You can stay in the guest room and have it to yourself or if you prefer there are loads of nooks around the house where you could stay on your sleeping mat if you need a bit more adventure. It might be possible to bring your van (but please ask as to double check). There's also a sheltered outdoor bed if you like to sleep outside.
We cook vegetarian (often vegan) meals. We have a well stocked food cupboard and you are free to use it. We sometimes like to eat together in which case you would be very welcome to join. (of course you'd also be welcome to cook for everyone occasionally if you like). You should be comfortable making meals for yourself when we're not around or busy.
 - What else ...- There’s loads of nice walks you can do around here, and we can lend you a bike to explore. We are well connected to public transport. There’s a small archery range I’m building in the barn so you’d be welcome to learn or practice archery here. There's also a nice hammock. spot in the garden to unwind. >>>Please mention the cat “Luna” who lives here and has adopted us in your request, so we know you have read the description carefully :)
