Description
Welcome to our little family permaculture farm in Northern Germany! :-)
We are a family of six - two small whirwind-children (2 and 5), parents and grandparents— living on a farm in the heart of a small village. Our home is surrounded by beautiful countryside (fields and trees and forest and lakes not far), ideal for exploring by bicycle, and there’s a train station just a short distance away, making travel and exploring other places in northern Germany easy. Thus, a well connected country side!
Our farm is managed largely according to permaculture principles, with a focus on sustainability and natural cycles. We grow a variety of fruits and vegetables (trying to be self-sufficient during summer), care for chickens, two cats and two sheep (hopefully a growing number soon), and we are always working on new projects to slowly improve our land and home.
We offer a welcoming, openhearted family atmosphere and love to share our knowledge about permaculture, gardening, and rural living, but also about traveling (as we did it ourselves quite a bit). We value open communication, cultural exchange, and look forward to learning from each other.
If you’re interested in exploring northern german sustainable farm life while having your private space to live in, enjoy working and being outdoors, like to learn and share and would like to experience authentic family life, we’d love to hear from you! :-)Types of help and learning opportunities

We love welcoming the world into our home! After spending years traveling much ourselves, we’re excited to now invite guests from all over and share our daily life and culture with you.
Our family speaks three languages more or less fluently—German, English, and Norwegian—and we’re always happy to learn new words and phrases from our guests. If you’re interested in language exchange, we can practice together and help each other improve.
We’d love to introduce you to traditional local foods and show you how we cook and eat in our region. You’ll also have the chance to join us for social events, whether it’s meeting friends, participating in village celebrations, or exploring the local area together.
We believe cultural exchange is about sharing experiences, stories, and perspectives. We’re curious to learn about your background, your traditions, and your ideas. Whether it’s through conversations, shared meals, or working side by side on the farm, we hope you’ll feel at home and make lasting memories with us.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Tasks can include gardening, planting, harvesting (big part during the summer..), small construction or maintenance projects (always a lot to do here), creative works (i like it to be esthetic, and there is definately still a lot to do in that direction), and helping with daily family life (two hungry kids and lots of dirty laundry) - we will find out together, which of the various projects fit you best in terms of skills and motivation! :-)
(I can't guarantee no dirty work in the garden, though ;-) )
As we are an environmental planner/ permacultural designer/ gardener and carpenter, there is a bit of knowledge we can share.
We will sometimes work together, but often it is also required for you to work on your own after an instruction, so being independent and able to work alone for some time will be helpful; depending on the task of course...Languages spoken

Accommodation is in a cozy trailer a little bit away from the house with a nice view on the meadow. It is small but has all you need, including a Sofa-bed that fits two people who like each other (thus, couples or friends are welcome). You can prepare you own tea an coffee and small meals there as well, but we share most meals together as a family (lunch and some days dinner). It'll be an advantage to be comfortable with using (and cleaning) a composting toilet, as this is the main toilet available outdoors.
What else ...
In your free time, you can explore the scenic landscape (we can provide a bike and camping gear), visit nearby villages or cities (good infrastructure with buses and trains), or simply relax and enjoy nature.
As we are a young family, we'll sometimes need some time together and primarily for the children, which will be mainly in the evenings. I'm sure we'll find a good way that works for all of us :-)
Generally, we'd expect a sensitive handling with having children around (meaning e.g. no smoking when they are around and such things...), and being respectful with each other needs.A little more information
