    Description

    GENERAL INFORMATION.
We have a 11 bed Guest Lodge, 10 Glamping units (Bell Tents, Train carriages and even a Boat!) and a Motorhome/Campsite site. We are located on the northwest coast of Donegal which is close to five beautiful beaches, the Horn Head sea-cliffs, Ards Forest Park, Muckish and Errigal mountains, Glenveigh National Park and Tory Island.

Our 2 hectare (5 acre) property, a pre-Celtic site, is located alongside a main bus-route and two miles (3km) from the nearest village ... Dunfanaghy (Co. Donegal). We are right beside New Lake Nature Reserve, with sea views over the Atlantic to Tory Island.

There are small shops and some pubs with traditional music in the nearby villages of Dunfanaghy (3km) and Falcarragh (8km) . Letterkenny, the nearest town, is 45 mins away by car or bus.

The property and the buildings are renowned for their tranquility, warm hospitality, eco-friendly recycling policy, organic garden, meditation sanctuaries and the sound of the Mill stream by day and the crashing of waves on the beach by night. We have no TVs here for entertainment. We don't need them!

The help includes looking after our guests, housekeeping, maintenance, administrative duties, marketing, cooking and bar/restaurant service. The season develops slowly from Mar to June, gets busy during Jul-Aug and starts getting quiet again thereafter. We close for winter from about 01 Nov to late March.

The amount of hours depend on the amount of guests staying and if there is little or no work in-house we work in the garden ... weeding, cutting grass, looking after the flowers, chickens, etc. You will also help to create new recreational areas and activities for our guests. In the evenings, we serve wine and pizza to our guests so if you like to cook, you can help the pizza chef to prepsre the dough and the toppings :)

During your time here, you will be able to explore the wonderful local landscape, beaches, forest park, etc..

If you like the countryside you will love it here. We need volunteers who are friendly, reliable and sociable. It is important that you have some English, (to take bookings, answer the phone and have a chat with our guests).

We give free accommodation to our volunteers, in a room in the main Mill House or in the upstairs of a converted Kiln House, above the Campers Kitchen alongvwith 50eur per week towards your food. We provide free Internet and WIFI (which is sometimes limed because of our rural location) so bring your Laptop if you wish.

Many, many thanks to all the wonderful helpers/workers/volunteers who came to stay with us down through the years! You helped us through difficult times and brightened up our lives.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Best wishes and looking forward to hearing from you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are located in a very special area, between an old all Gaelic-speaking community and an old English Plantation village where people from all over the world come to visit. This part of Ireland is renowned for it's beaches and we have surfers from all over the world come to check out the waves.

It is also a highly spiritual area and within a 5-mile radius of Dunfanaghy, there are seven times the national average of ancient sites dating back 6000 years. Whereas, with a village population of less than 500 people one could expect one church, we have six within the same area and a very special ruined church which dominates the village and its history.

Within the village there are several traditional music pubs, which are also an attraction for guests and Workaway volunteers alike and we avail of every opportunity to introduce our volunteers to local cultural events and performances.

Many renowned Irish and English writers and artists, revolutionaries and statesmen have visited or made their homes here over the years but one in particular, George Russell (AE) made very vivid connections, in verse, story and paintings, to the Faery world and the pre-Celtic people which, being a major feature of our business profile is very much enjoyed by our guests and their children alike.
