Description
Hi! My name is Ana and we are currently bringing new life to a beautiful countryside property in Alentejo, just outside Montemor-o-Novo (Évora), only one hour from Lisbon.
Our 7-hectare family estate has been in transformation for over 15 years. Originally from Angola, we grew up around big family gatherings, long lunches, music, and shared moments, and we hope to slowly shape this place into a warm and creative hideaway for people looking to disconnect from city life, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a slower rhythm.
The long-term vision is to create a countryside space where people can retreat, recharge, create, connect, or simply enjoy peaceful days surrounded by nature. For now, we’re in the exciting (and sometimes dusty!) stage of gradually bringing the property back to life.
We’re looking for easygoing, practical, and hands-on people who enjoy countryside life, outdoor projects, and being part of an evolving place with character. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This experience is probably best for people who enjoy slower living, nature and learning by doing rather
Travellers who join us become part of a living hospitality and creative space where daily rhythms include shared meals, guest experiences, event preparation, and time in nature.
The exchange is based on mutual contribution and clarity of roles rather than a formal training program. This is an immersive environment where contributors observe, participate, and engage in the real flow of a creative retreat house.
Depending on the role, travellers may experience and learn about:
* how small-scale hospitality and retreat spaces operate
* Angolan and Portuguese cuisine and lifestyle
* portuguese and english language exchange
* community living and shared responsibility systems -

Help
At the moment, our focus is on improving and restoring different areas of the property step by step, so we’re mainly looking for practical, proactive people who enjoy hands-on projects and don’t mind getting a little dusty sometimes.
Current projects may include:
* restoring and retouching wooden structures
* painting and refreshing walls and outdoor spaces
* helping create a herb spiral and garden areas
* clearing and improving pathways and outdoor zones
* building simple rustic features around the property
* signage, organization, and general maintenance support
We especially appreciate people with practical skills in DIY, gardening, painting, maintenance, carpentry, landscaping, hospitality, photography/content creation, or rustic design aesthetics.
The project is still evolving naturally, so initiative and adaptability matter more to us than perfection. We enjoy collaborating with people who are independent, respectful, and happy to contribute to a calm countryside environment.
All collaborations are structured and agreed in advance, with clear responsibilities, working hours, accommodation, and payment conditions discussed beforehand. -

What else ...
Montemor-o-Novo is a great little town with great produce, vineyards, lots of cattle and a beautiful walking track along an old train station, that has now been transformed into a chocolate factory (FYI). Here you can find an underground scene with artisans, designers and craftsmen that gather around their awesome workshop site, an old convent.
For a bigger city centre, cinema, skydiving or other activities you can go to Évora, a medieval Roman city only a 30 min bus ride. The city is full of students and tourists and is a great local spot to walk around, party and see the old architecture.
The most beautiful beaches on the coast are also only an hour drive (Tróia, Comporta, Arrábida).
Lisbon is an hour bus drive away (wifi on board), just amazing! -
